Office '97 question

I just got a nice “new used” computer, Win95 installed. I have my Office '97 CD, but on two attempts to install, the following happens: Everything goes fine, 5% downloads, then the whole thing locks up. Can’t shut it down, nothing. I tried waiting about an hour, but it gets stuck & I eventually “incorrectly” shut down.

The CD seems clean, though with a couple of really minor surface scratches. Is this what’s hanging it up? Do I have to ack buy a new one? Any ideas?

Do you have enough hard drive space?

If so, then try installing a different program that to see if it’s the CD drive that’s the problem.

Try installing the CD on another computer to rule out the disc being defective.

Just drag the setup directory to the HD & try to install from there.

You can wash the cd in water & pat dry, which is what I do, if you want.

But if you can copy all those files it needs to the HD then the cd must be fine.
