Official Matthew's Day Off -Bueller Commercial

I can’t stop re-watching this. Its brilliantly done. I’m so impressed with the way they updated these famous film scenes and made them into Matthew’s day off. They got a lot into this 2 min commercial.

What’s your favorite recreated scene? Mine? The bar scene where Matthew is on tv and his agent almost sees him.

Entertaining.

I was highly entertained. They did a great job with it.

Can anyone tell me what the license plate says? I can’t quite get it.

SOCHOIC

I don’t get the joke either.

I just thought it was “So Choice” with the ‘e’ lopped off.

Also, it’s a quote from the movie: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) - Quotes - IMDb

There is a part in the movie where he is talking about Cameron’s dad’s sports car and he says something about it being “so choice” (and highly recommends picking one up if you have the means).

I hate that I remember that but can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

In the movie, Ferris describes Cameron’s dad’s Ferrari as, “So choice … . If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”

Thanks Jack.

I had forgotten that line. The license plate makes sense now.

Besides the obvious ones, references I liked…

The agent holding a baseball. The walrus is a nod to a line in the movie, “I could be the walrus, I’d still have to bum rides off people.” ‘Grace’ on the phone call in the car. The clarinet, the pineapple drink, the rabbit foot key chain, the white-out on his agent’s desk. Cameron’s Red Wings jersey behind Broderick on the roller-coaster. Broderick reappearing after the ad appears to be over.

The only thing they needed was a quick cameo of Alan Ruck and Mia Sara in a crowd scene or at the museum.

I looked really close for a sneaky Ruck or Mia cameo and didn’t spot one.

I liked the parking valet calling out “Broderick? Broderick?” in a deadpan voice like Ben Stein. I also totally saw the giant panda in the passenger seat coming. And then the parking attendant at the end taking the CR-V for a joyride.

Decent concept, complete waste of a commercial. A minivan? That’s the polar opposite of the “don’t let life pass you by” concept in Ferris Bueller. This commercial would have been appropriate for the CR-Z or Civic, but a minivan? What it tells me is that the buyer is a failure, that all their grand plans to live life to the fullest have collapsed in a heap of dirty laundry. They’ve become Cameron instead of Ferris.

Isnt it an suv?

Very cool. I’m glad he was willing to do that.

I’ve seen him in interviews where he says that because of that movie, he still gets people coming up to him saying, “Hey, Ferris, what’s going on? Is today…your day off or something?”

They think they are hilarious. He’s been hearing it for a couple decades.

I always thought FB was pretty mainstream. In the movie he’s a suburban kid with good grades, has a hot girlfriend, skips school to do generally innocent stuff. Really not a risk taker. He lives life to the fullest within a pretty narrow life.

I can see him in later life taking the same ‘risks’ within his just as narrow current life. Doing so in a cooler car would have mirrored the movie more but I don’t see it an emblematic of anything other than a need to sell automobiles.

What** ballardfam *said, plus the demographic the ad is going after is the mid-to-late 40’s folks who were the demographic for FBDO *when it first hit the theatres- basically, me. And I would be more inclined to buy a CR-V at this point in my life, because I have a family and stuff to haul around, but we’ve been able to downsize from a minivan. So the CR-V was the right vehicle for the ad.

i freaking love this commercial. i would buy a cr-v if i had the money to. of course it helps that i’ve always driven a honda and i like the cr-v anyway. great job.

I wish Honda would have went back to the mini-suv route with the CRV to look more like the Rav4. Instead they’re going the mini mini-van route which is butt-ugly. Pontiac Aztek anyone?

I really wish there had been cameos. But I enjoyed it.
