Oh, wait. I think RussellM already guessed that last one. So it isn’t the War of the Worlds broadcast.

Ummm…was it a suicide pact?

OK, last one for tonight.

The man is driving a truck of agricultural products to market. He hears the farm report and realizes that he’s not gonna make enough money to keep the farm.

Um… Did he know the Disk Jockey?
Was the Disk Jockey a family member?
Did the Dis Jockey give him some bad news?

The radio station were doing a call-the-listener type contest, his house was the one they called, and a male voice answered, so he knew his wife was having an affair?

(Man that was a mouthful…)

NO.

I’m thinking he’s not a kook, so he won’t commit suicide over just the ordinary bad financial luck / wife was cheating / ran over a squirrel and feels guilty sort of thing. It’s gotta be something that would make an ordinary person consider suicide … an impending invasion by space aliens certain to enslave humanity for torture experiments? Some whacky natural disaster that would kill the whole population of an area, slowly and painfully? Killer bees? Impending VX gas attack?

But those aren’t my questions, since we’re not supposed to guess wildly. My real questions are:

Did he hear news on the radio involving some kind of military or terrorist attack?

Are international politics in any way involved?

Are any freakish meteorological/geological events involved?

Am I reading Hippocrates right?
He’s not just a big box for storing large semi-aquatic mammals, is he?

YES. (YOU ARE CORRECT THAT HE DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE FOR THOSE REASONS.)
