oft times i wonder

people always tell me what a good career i have, and as a result what a nice life i must have.

so i wonder, what defines success, career, achievement and “good life”?

Ah Mark, you have it all wrong…

Work is just waht you do so you can have your life, a career does not define us.

Being a success, I think, is to experience as much as possible, hurt as few people as possible, pull every bit of happy out of every minute you can.

Work is just what you do till you come home again.
(nice to see you posting!)

OK, kaaskop, since you’re new here, I’ll cut you some slack

What is it you want to come out of this thread? Because we have different fora (forums, for those who feel so inclined) for different purposes.

In this case, I’m torn between a few options:

General Questions: Is there a valid definition for succes? Have studies proven that economic wealth leads to a happier life?

Great Debates: What defines happiness?

In My Humble Opinion: What makes YOU feel happy? Is it your carreer?

Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share: Woohoo! I want you all to know that I’m doing FINE!! Life is good!!

The BBQ Pit: Fck you bl**dy bastrds who earn more f*cking money than me!
Decisions, decisions… help me out here mate.

fine, delete it

um… stick it in IMHO…?

That will not be necessary. We’ll just ship it to IMHO.

I think you have it all wrong. Well no you don’t. I agree with the middle part. But the most sucessful life is having work that it NOT just what you do till you come home again. Given the percentage of any given life dedicated to supporting one’s self, my definition of sucess is spending that time doing something that’s meaningful to you.

My definition of success is simple. Am I happy? If I’m happy, then I’m successful. It really boils down to that. If possessions and money truly make you happy, and you have that, then you’re successful. If you have no money at all, scrape by on eating scraps from garbage, but have people who love you, and you’re happy living like that, then you’re a success. It’s the one thing that everyone can pretty much agree on. Since everyone values different things. What makes me happy? Having enough money to live comfortably (ie, a roof over my head, food, and a few perks); most importantly, having someone (or multiple people) who truly care about me, and that I truly care about. Friends and family I can count on. That makes me happy. If I can sustain that my whole life, I’ll be one successful person.
