This Sunday’s (May 18 2025) was a headscratcher at first; the first five panels didn’t seem to have any connection to the second five. Only after composing this post did I finally get that the first five depict an analogy of what vamp doctor (does she have a name?) thinks is going on.
Navaan.
D’Oh! Should have remembered that!
Analogy? Given the nature of the world, I’d give it a 50/50 chance of there being actual tiny people in her liver.
50/50? Are you questioning Navaan’s practice of medicine?
Oh she has impeccable credentials. Namely declaring herself a doctor. Which puts her ahead of everyone (*), apparently.
(* other than the lizardpeople healers at Mistress’ castle, I mean, those ARE able to save you, you just will wish they had not)
I’m having a “the best kind of correct” moment about today’s Oglaf A word from our Sponsor I saw a Terry Jones documentary about the Medieval period, where he described monasteries as “prayer factories” for the same reasons in today’s comic. Maybe not for pro sports, but the example holds up.
The latest strip is good but I don’t entirely get why the “victim” is lying face down in the last two cells - IME animals that get the zoomies don’t collapse afterward. But I guess the suggestion is that she’s just exhausted.
And I definitely don’t get the mouseover - “2AM came early today”?
A time of night when cats get zoomies. ![]()
Ahhh, OK. I have more experience with dogs that get the zoomies when let off the leash outside during the day.
True story. This had me laughing so early that I had to delay reading the last panel (which itself inspired new gales of laughter).
Just reminding us that the comic is written by a woman.
A m/f couple isn’t it? Or does Trudy do the writing?
I think Trudy writes and Doug draws, but I’m not 100% certain.
Other way round, but Trudy also writes.
Back when I was a relatively young whippersnapper, I ran into a series of comics called “Cherry Poptart” (later changed to “Cherry” for legal reasons) by Larry Welz. The bit for the stories was that the title character and her friends looked like Archie comics characters, but were perpetually 18 and perpetually horny; she and her friends would get into adventures that always ended in hardcore pron.
While the adult action got repetitive after a while, some of the setups for the acts were brilliant, featuring parodies of “The Wizard of Oz”, “Star Trek:The Next Generation”, and “Gilligan’s Island”, amongst others. There was even a combined “Terminator/Bill and Ted” parody where Cherry witnessed her own conception, and another story featuring Donald Trump taking over the comic and forcing Cherry to have her first interracial experience, which led to Trump having a similar LGBTQI+ experience (which I’m sure The Donald would have gotten the author & publisher sued for bajillions had he ever become aware of it). Not as good as oglaf by any means, but it was interesting.
As I noted in TV Tropes’s page “Everyone Is Armed”:
The adult humor comic Cherry #3 includes a parody of slasher films (note: “Saturday the 8th Part Five The Final Beginning just when you thought you were already paranoid enough…”) in which Cherry is attacked by a maniac killer. Fortunately she and her friends are all armed, and the maniac is pulverized by gunfire.
“-That’s the THIRD maniac killer this SUMMER!”
IMHO, the best deconstruction of guns vs. no guns since “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.
