Dude’s kept so busy saving the world that he never has any time for sleep. Massive doses of caffeine are the only way he manages to keep going at all, and he’s really reaching the limit of that.
It’s been done before, in the early Astro City comics.
That’s okay, though, because Astro City was great.
The very first Astro City comic, in fact. (Though sleep was about the only thing Samaritan did have time to do, other than heroics, and checking in at the office just often enough that nobody realised ‘Asa’ wasn’t actually the one doing his job.)
There’s a point at which jokes are a bit too meta to still be amusing.
She had a storyline people were really starting to get invested in with Ivan and the Mistress and she walked away from it to do (effectively) a bunch of stand up one liners.
If this is the door back in it’s not starting off with a bang.
Is it just me or does it look like the elven ambassador’s penis is originating from his left thigh?
So now she’s copying gags from American Pie?
For those who can’t remember exactly who’s being talked about, this is Sandoval the Xoan ambassador indulging his well-known passion for desserts in this week’s comic.
I think that’s just an artifact of carelessly drawn pubes.
It’s interesting to note how Sandoval’s skin color has changed over the course of the comic.
I’m inclined to think it’s more a feature of the lighting of whatever scene he happens to be in. Look how his perceived skin tone switches from grayish lavender to beige in two different rooms within the same strip, for example.
It literally is, though.
I didn’t find it hilarious, but the punchline made me smile and it was also educational (I looked up “croquembouche” on Wikipedia).

Yeah, why does this comic suck now?
I don’t know that it “sucks”, but she had a great storyline going with the Ivan Mistress stuff that people were getting invested in, and she essentially walked away from it. The female virgin vampire and Ivan had the sexy dialed up to 11 and it was hilarous to boot.
Maybe she’s just getting tired of it. She been a professional comic artist for over 20 years.
The one odd thing I do find about Oglaf is that I think it has huge potential for monetizing the characters through T-shirts, logos etc. but she has done almost nothing toward that end. This little bit here is all there is and even that is fairly recent.
She has a large fan base and is doing little to exploit that fact. Whether that’s admirable or stupid I don’t know.
Yeah, it seems like Oglaf might have jumped the shark. I, for one, don’t understand what happened to the NSFW factor. That got dialed way, way down after the Ivan storyline “ended.” It’s like, the jokes weren’t all winners before, but at least you got the sexy either way…Now, it’s not funny and it’s complete waste of my private browsing session, to boot.
Some of the SFW comics have always been good, like Fountain of Doubt and The Sword Master. The problem’s really that three of the last five comics aren’t any good. Pillow Talk and The Nocturnal Adventures of Sir Coffee both had good jokes that expand on tropes everyone knows - purple prose and knights errant/superheroes.
Wow, it’s becoming as obscure and unfunny as, say, an editorial cartoon in a college newspaper.
