Oglaf appreciation thread - very NSFW - hilarious pornographic webcomic

And that explains…what?

The question that you asked.

Either that, or just another horny magical creature that wants to get laid. It’s best not to overthink these things.

I laughed out loud at a giraffapillar comic. It’s a good day!

Okay, I can deal with that.

I feel like an idiot but I cannot access these comics. I get a message to click that I am over 18 and when I do I get a page that says “Forbidden”. Who is censoring me?

kayt, I had the same exact problem last year. (As long as you are talking about the links from early on in the thread.)
This is the solution:

Cloud of Death.

His attire appears to be modern.

I think that’s been fairly standard attire for dockworkers and sailors for a long time. It’s just recently that those styles have spread beyond inland.

Are you whoosing me, Doctor Physics?
Her other stuff is mideveal, however one spells it.

Compare to a few other stories set in the fishermans’ tavern:

I stand corrected.

Well, wiki gives this, under ‘Polo Neck’:
“Turtleneck-like garments have been worn for hundreds of years, dating to the 15th century at least.”
And this:
“From the late 19th century on, turtlenecks were commonly worn by menial workers, athletes, sailors and naval officers. Since the middle of the 20th century black polo necks have been closely associated with radical academics, philosophers, artists and intellectuals”

The artist’s fishing stories look to be based in the 19th century, but then again she’s drawing a alternative world, so maybe the Maritime industry is more advanced in fashion and style than the rest of her world.

(The fishing reel in the 3rd panel of Magic Fish looks to be modern, but Wiki has an illustration of a 12th century Chinese fisherman with a vaguely similar looking reel, so that’s no help.

Or since there doesn’t appear to be much character overlap, they could simply be in another part of the world. She has characters dressed like 16th century conquistadors in search of fountains, emperors in togas at gladiator matches, barbarian tribes fighting on cliffs, and fractured fairytales from 1001 Arabian Nights. This is not a comic overly concerned with chronology.

Best to think of it as a Standard Fantasy Setting and move on.

Why would you assume that every comic in Oglaf belongs to the same world and time?

Because if the serial nature and recurring characters.

If you don’t buy that, to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bland and uninteresting narrative.

I was confused as to which thread I had open, and I thought this was the ‘pissed about circumcision’ thread. Curiously, the first part of this post still seemed appropriate.

Yeah, I don’t assume any of the characters are in the same world, unless there’s some specific crossover or link between them. I’m pretty sure the explorers looking for the Fountain of Youth are in Florida, for example. Ivan and Mistress, on the other hand, are clearly not on any version of our world.
