This was my take on it.
Remember this strip?
Yes, I linked to it by name at the start of the discussion of the current one (“The Fire of God”), back in post #1170.
That’s what I was taking from it as well. I just thought there was a bit of “middle” left out of the story that explained how she got from “stoked to take on this mission” to “missing from the neck down.”
I have a feeling this is the start of a longer story. Haven’t we seen a vampire who liked to have fun before? You know, this one?
I was just about to point that out. In fact, this week’s strip leads to all sorts of interesting thoughts…
1 - The monks link back to Grier
2 - The Funpire could very well be Navaan the vampire, who learned how to have “Fun” when in the clutches of… (or rather, having in her clutches)…
3 - IVAN
4 - Ivan’s not dead (so sayeth the jedi-spirit-anti-yoda-like-lizard), but perhaps needs to be “awoken” in some sort of Oglaf-universe-twisted-reverse-sleeping-beauty thing, which given all the possible connections now between Ivan, Navaan, Grier, the monks, and Mistress…well, that could get fun for someone.
Call me an optimist, but I see the author finding a really neat way of connecting a few of the recent-ish threads back to Ivan’s story. Hell, being a fantasy world with some standard tropes to be expected, wouldn’t an amusing “party that must go save the world” made up of Ivan, Grier, Navaan, Vanka (rescued from prison, of course), and Mr. Allegory-hater be kind of fun to watch interacting with each other?
…yes, I am a tool for actually having thought this all out, but a) I really want to believe that all of the one-shots lately have been for some greater purpose, b) I really like Grier, Navaan, and Vanka (Grier is probably my favorite character in the whole series, to be honest), and c) Ivan’s story is definitely one I’d love to see come back full force.
For whatever reason I never made the connection between
fun + vampire= funpire,
I kept thinking
fun+empire=funpire
:smack:
I like it, I also think Morag is still alive & there is more to come to her story.
Oh…that makes much more sense than my interpretation. I thought she was fighting the enemy of luck, which would be bad luck, and then she had bad luck against bad luck. (When I type it out, it looks like gibberish.)
I wonder what Morag’s god died of?
I thought the monks were just trying to get Grier to come to a surprise “thank you” party, but learning that there really is a funpire killing them makes me hopeful that we will see Navaan again.
Ivan and Mistress will of course return sooner or later; I’m not worried about them.
That just doesn’t compute. Vanka does not get rescued from prison; she does her own escaping.
“rescues herself”, you mean.
“Rescued” in the 4th wall sense, as in, the author plucks her from the prison and sets her on the loose again, etc.
It was early/late, gimme a break ![]()
New one. A little chuckleworthy.
Who doesn’t love titties?
well, there not my thing, but I have just one thing to say about that: “fucktopus!”![]()
I haven’t seen anyone so dour since Mandy (of Billy & Mandy).
Grier is damned skinny (nice butt for someone so completely lacking hips, though…)
“Sqlibba Lubba Libba Foont”
I never knew Don Martin was so sexy.
