Oh, America Online, I do hate Thee so.

Actually, I think Dallas is northwest of Salem. Oh, hell, who cares, that wasn’t my point.

Hello, My name is Shirley and I’ve been AOL free for two months. Since jumping ship to www.Netzero.com I’ve discovered very few busy connections. I’ve been booted a few times, but since it is free and I’m just surfing rather than doing something important, I really don’t mind.

BTW, I was watching the Digital Duo on PBS a couple weeks ago and they strongly recommend NOT signing any long term ISP provider package. ( Three years for $150, etc) because there is a revolution, albeit slow, started in Europe ( primarily in Germany and UK) where most there have free internet access due to lack of wanting to pay for it. I would write more on this but it’s 230a and 1) my son just woke up and 2) I really have to pee.

Inky, I couldn’t agree more. I tried aol twice in a period of about 3 years. They suck! I have also found that the people that you run into are of a different caliber depending on where you go on the net. This message board is marledly different from the ones that I used to see on aol.

AOL SUCKS!!!

For what a man had rather were true he more readily believes.

I keep AOL for one reason, it’s newsgroup reader. I find their format for the usenet groups the best. It’s easy on the eyes and has a clean uncluttered look unlike Deja or Remarq.

Like Laura (I think that’s who posted it) I use Earthlink to connect to AOL. I have been on AOL since Feb of 95 and have made a lot of friends over there.

My “Colorado Roomies” are fun to chat with and occasionally I will go to an AOL party, which are outrageously fun.

Also, if I am having difficulty finding information on a subject (after an exhaustive search of the internet) I will turn to AOL and usually can find it over there.

Since I am part-time web designer, full time internet junky, I refuse to use AOL to surf the net - the gateway sucks. I only pay $9.95 a month and get my Earthlink connection for free from one of my clients so I can’t complain.

Yes, AOL sucks. But…I refuse to cancel my account. I’ve made too many friends here. Yes, I know, I could still IM without AOL, but…I’m quiet…I’m shy…and often, I prefer a chatroom, where it isn’t just ME trying to carry on the conversation. Yes, there are chat rooms on the net, too…but they tend to run slower, especially for the (many) folks with older computers that AREN’T obscenely fast. Now, I would consider getting another ISP to connect with, for the web, and downloads. But I’m never giving up my AOL.

Are you aware that you cannot access newsgroups that AOL doesn’t approve of?
