Oh come on, doggy, you're really doing THAT?!?

My girly pug is a little bit sick. No worries, talked to vet on the phone today, and she has an appointment tomorrow morning. We’re thinking she has a bit of an anal gland issue going on. Either that, or she’s just backed up because we had a HUGE winter storm this week, and she refuses to go outside to do her business unless she has what seems like half an acre to wander about in, and there was a day or two there where sometimes it just wasn’t possible to spend 45 minutes clearing the snow off a half mile of yard so she could pick the exact right spot to take a dump. The result is she just held it for far too long and now she’s probably a bit constipated.

Anyway, fast forward to yesterday, and her newest symptom? She poops when she barks or gets excited or has anything even remotely exciting happen to her. Not big poops, just little nuggets of hard poop. Someone come to the door? Run to the door barking like usual, only this time, two little nuggets of poop drop out like she’s one of these toys. I come in from the garage? Run to greet mommy, nuggets o’ poop dropping all the way.

And the best - need to puke? Might as well puke and poop at the same time.

It’s been great, I tell you, just great. On the plus side, getting a stool sample for the vet was super easy.

Oh, and she’s stealth-farting, too. And insisting on sitting on my lap.

Gross! My roommate’s cat likes to pee in empty boxes, but I think your problem is worse. :frowning:

Ugh, I feel your pain.

My Minerva was diagnosed with IBD. She was puking and pooping simultaneously. I had to lock her in the bathroom when we weren’t home so that the mess was easily cleanable and didn’t ruin anything. Thankfully, it was brought under control with meds and a diet change.

Ugh. Just got back from Vet. She apparently has a condition called Megaesophagus, which, if we’re lucky, was caused by some kind of irritation in her esophagus, and if we’re not, is something that happens to dogs and is a hassle to treat, and greatly increases her chances of getting bad pneumonia.

Doc wants us to feed her small meals and keep her upright during/after she eats, and probably go in for another round of x-rays next week.

Blech. This doggy is like a child to me. I suppose this is a better diagnosis than some, but the idea that something is potentially Really Wrong with her is killing me.

How old is the dog?

She’s about 9 years old.

She seems to be doing OK now. Vet gave her a shot of anti-nausea medication, and I fed her some rice & chicken. Now she’s sleeping.

I sure hope this turns out to be something minor. It could, from what I read, but it could not. Gah. I hate these kinds of things.
