Oh freakin' Canada! (eh!)

My posting may be a little big late … but the weekend had more Canadian victories than just Mike Weir.

The Canadian Men won the world curling championship (unfortunate the ladies only came second.) (As an aside, I love learning how to say ‘Sweep’ in many different languages!)

Paul Tracy won a CART race (I forget which one)

As for other Canadian Athlete’s … don’t forget out great Canadian Triathletes … Simon Whitfield, Sharon Donnelly, Peter Reid, Carol Montgomery, Lisa Bentley

Then there are the rowers … Marnie McBean, Silken Laumen, Alison Korn

I do note a Toronto bias in OP … I think that the Edmonton Oilers, the Calgary Flames, and the Montreal Canadiens have all won Lord Stanley’s cup! (I’m hoping that it continues to be a long time before Toronto wins again … the Rest of Canada would NEVER hear the end of it

Edmo-what now? Calga-Who? Montreal? Montreal has a hockey team??

I am a big Homer! (and I live in the GTA whodathunk)

Sorry for the bias! Yes, Paul Tracy did well, I was, in fact, watching the Edmonton Game on Saturday night and I was excited for them…

As for Curling… well, good for the curlers…

I AM CANADIAN

In fact, let us not forget that Montreal has won the Cup more often than the Leafs, and more recently too (though they have sucked the past few years, but we won’t mention that) And of course the Vancouver Canucks came so close to being added to Amethyst’s list back in '94.

Now all I have to say is: GO Canucks!!! You guys better win tonight!

I’m hoping we make it all the way to the last game for the cup and then lose again. Maybe riots will destroy Robson again.

kidding… kidding…

Cyrin, I’m sorry, but in a list of Canadian sports accomplishments, you really should list all the Stanley Cups won by the Canadiens and Oilers (and one by the Flames) during the years when the NHL was actually a modern sports league, as opposed to the Cups “won” by Toronto when there were only SIX teams in the league. I mean, come on, do Leafs fans actually count those? It’s almost as pathetic as Senators fans counting the Cups that teams from Ottawa won back in the 1920s.

I feel bad for Leafs fans; it’s like being a Red Sox fan. How do you enjoy cheering for a team that will never win the championship again… ever?
