I can’t help judging this type of flick on technological accuracy, and on this basis Swordfish was abysmal. I’m no hacking expert, but I suspect viruses are not made with CAD/CAM programs.
On the Halle Barry’s skin basis, though, it was a pretty good movie.
All Hollywood movies involving computers have been absolutely pathetic. So we are really comparing different levels in the bottom of the sewer.
FtG’s standard complaint #45: when some text is being decoded, you see individual characters being converted into the plain text one letter at a time. Agggggh.
But Sneakers, War Games, and Hackers did have a couple of things based in reality. Not much, but a few. (War Games is near and dear due to its setting at the UofW. I knew people who worked in the computer center that were just like the guys in the movie. I was almost one of them.)
For similar computer/crypto movies I would recommend a couple classics:
Sebastian starring Dirk Bogarde and the stunning Susannah York. Also has a very young Donald Sutherland in a small role. Total 60s movie complete with psychedelic party scene. A very early movie that delves into the psyche of a super geek.
Colossus, The Forbin Project. While a low budget movie, it still made some good points and got into some old-style computer nerd things.

CRTs do not project the ‘screen’ onto a user’s face, so why do they in the movies? Ref: Jurassic Park 1
