Oh god oh god the world will end end END

http://www.xs4all.nl/~mke/exitmundi.htm

I just read them all. I’m going to curl up in a small ball now.

Volcanoes volcanoes supervolcanoes everywhere…

Of course it will. If nothing else happens, once the sun starts expanding. No big deal. I plan to be dead by several billions years from now.

Well, I might as well stop putting $$ in my 401k then. Think I’ll buy an HDTV with the extra money.

AAAAAHH!!! The Sims online has been released 3 years early?!? No miracle can save our souls now… :’’’[

On a more serious note, and very interesting info too, supervolcanoes aren’t some chimeras created by those who advocate the end of the world, they’re real facts. One erupted approx. 75 000 years ago, and strangely, during that period, according to genetic dating, there was a human population bottleneck, the human race was reduced to under 5000 individuals. Interesting to say the least. Especially since there’s a supervolcano magma dome right under Yellowstone Park! (which may or may not erupt in the next 10 000 years… :))

OH NOES!

Well, I think I’d like to go by Whammo!, but Fuck! and Incoming! are sounding pretty nice too.

I feel fine.

Damn. Not again. That really sucked the last time.

Gairloch

Great, jin, now you’ve got R.E.M. going through my head.

[sub]Actually, I like that. :)[/sub]

I think this range of options makes “Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice” totally obsolete.

Well in the case of the “Megatsunami”, hopefully the aliens from “The Abyss”, will pop out of nowhere and stop the wave.

Well I’m disappointed. Under religion, I didn’t see Ragnarok, which from posts at the SDMB I know to be some sort of Viking apocalypse, but I need details, people, details!

/hijack/

Ragnarok, or the Twilight of the Gods (although the accurate translation is, apparently, the Doom of the Gods), is the end of this age and the beginning of the next.

It starts with the Fimbulwinter, three years of an exeptionally bitter winter without any intervening summer.

Heimdall begins the final battle by blowing the Gjallarhorn from the Bifrost Bridge. Nidhogg finally finishes gnawing through the root of the World Tree. The armies of Surtr rise from the depths of Muspellheim, and are joined by the hosts of the Jotuns. They are led by Loki, Surtr, the Midgard Serpent, and some say Hela as well. Odin, Thor, and Freya lead the hosts of Asgard against them.

Basically everybody dies. Odin is eaten by Fenris, who is in turn killed by Odin’s son Vidar. Thor kills the Midgard Serpent, but succumbs to its poison. Loki and Heimdall kill each other. The world is devoured by flames and quenched by the sea.

In the aftermath, Baldur is released from Niflheim, and the only two humans to survive the holocaust emerge from the trees that shelter them. (The trees survive mostly because something has to, otherwise there’d be no point to the story, as near as I can tell.) A new Golden Age begins, free of corruption.

How’s that? I think I covered all the high points…

/end hijack/

So, wait, does this happen before or after the bit with the midgets and the rings? I can never figure out what all the lyrics to that R.E.M. song are, and I think I’m missing something important here.

[sub]Neiblung? What? That something you get from smoking banana peels?[/sub]

I didn’t do it! I was framed! I dinn’t do nuffin’

Fenris, the innocent.
