Oh, I won, I won!

Woo-hoo, I won. Week before last was Associate Appreciation week with our company and they did fun little things like make us rootbeer floats (A&W rootbeer, can anyone guess where I work?) and had little giveaways. Also, each day they had drawings for different prizes and I won something. I won a Sony 4-disc giftpack. I didn’t get to pick it up until today because of being out of town, so I didn’t know what was in it. So this is what I got:

The Essential Bob Dylan (two cd set)
Gloria Estefan Greatest Hits II
Destiny’s Child–The Writing’s on the Wall
and–
J-Lo

What do you think about that?

Hold on.

You actually WON J-lo?

I’m not even a lesbian and I’m jealous of that. What are you going to do with her? Take her out for some floats and a side of chili cheese fries?

keep us posted!

(oh, and congratulations!)

jarbaby

If I’d won J-Lo herself I’d give her to you. She does nothing for me (Oh, okay, I admit she’s really something to look at, but I just can’t like her very much.) I don’t know what I think about her as a singer, 'cause I’ve never heard her yet. Also don’t know anything about Destiny’s Child except they’re at the top of the charts.

Hmmm Destiny’s Child…

This is my newest favorite crap pop group. They have a pretty powerful control of chord structure and manage some pretty impressive things musically (at least in comparison to most pop groups.) “Writing’s on the Wall” is the older CD, they still had four people then. Personally I feel they matured into “Survivor” but “Writing’s” has a few of my more favorite pieces like “Bills, Bills, Bills”, “Bug-A-Boo”, “Say my Name” and “Temptations”. but like all pop it comes down to personal taste.

They have a solid gospel background and I’m rather fond of good soulful group gospel. They utilise it a lot more in “Survivor” which makes teh later CD more my favorite. (I’m also very fond of the ‘empowering’ lyrics. They don’t do the weak, tearful, “I need a man” girlie movement. 'Bout time if you ask me.)

Congratulations, TroubleAgain!

Sounds like you should give J-Lo to jarbabyj and the Destiny’s Child CD to Medea’s Child.

Given your constant kindness to me, especially in the support you’ve given to me in my most recent painful and heart-rending situation, you certainly deserve to win a prize during “asshole appreciation” week. How appropriate.

Thank you for your being my friend, Rhonda. No awards you can win, save maybe the state lottery, can properly reward you for your constant loyalty.

Thanks, DRY, for your kind words. After I listen to them, if I don’t like them, I may take you up on that advice…I really am not into the “music” that is popular these days, but I’m not closed-minded about at least listening to them…

Sounds like you only got one good one, Bob Dylan, of course I can not stand pop. It makes me want to destroy large expensive objects. Punk rock is the way to go, and none of that sissy blink 182 crap, Hardcore.

But Bob Dylan can stay, he has talent, he writes his own songs and plays his own instruments.

I have respect for people that do that, I might not like their music (country, folk) but I can respect them as artists.

Sorry bout the rant.

fnord1966, I have to say that I feel your assessment of my “prize” probably coincides with mine, though for different reasons. I do like some pop, but not a lot, and most of it is the older stuff that I grew up with ('70’s, '80’s). I really love classical music, especially choral type stuff. I really dislike country, R&B, rap, dance music, etc. I am not really into Punk either, though I have to admit I haven’t had much exposure to it (and therefor, really don’t know if I’d like it or not). I couldn’t think of a single song or probably even an artist that I am familiar with in the genre. I really should get out more. ::sigh::

You’ve been a great friend to me in my time of need. I’ll have difficulty repaying that with mere flowery words. I’m glad to hear that things are well with you, though.

Okay, I definitely don’t like the J-Lo album. It all sounds the same, and I don’t like “dance” music anyway. You want it, jarbabyj? I’ll mail it to you if you’ll give me the address.
