Oh, Lil'Debbie what HAVE you done?

The answer is obvious: more sugar.

Since Little Debbie is mostly sugar, anyway, you probably didn’t notice. They are awful snack cakes. Alas, it looks like Hostess has gone their death by sugar path since they rebooted.

And she’s recognizable.

I didn’t try Lilttle Debbies til I moved South in the 80’s. I ate one and thought, meh…

You see, I grew up around Philly—Home of TastyKake! Comparing Lil’ Debbies to TastyKake is like comparing wagyu steak to a rancid sea slug hamburger.

Given the choice of a TastyKake or spending the night with a horny porn star, I’d say, gimme that Peanut Butter Kandy Kake, kiddo!

I never did care for Li’l Debbie or Hostess, or any of the knockoffs.

I’m weird. I don’t like the white frosting “goop.”

I don’t like Oreos for the same reason.

Don’t hate me. I have my quirks. Like I’m sitting here drinking my AM coffee, eating a pop tart.

Years ago, I heard or read somewhere that a poll was given to doctors about what the most unhealthy food was that they could think of. Answer: Oreo filling. I believe it…like Crisco frosting on cake. I never liked it either. But the Debbie “Nutty Bars” are decent, as I recall.

When I was a teenager, school lunch cost a dollar, but snack cakes were 25 cents. My mama gave me a dollar every day and I’d buy a snack cake for lunch and save the rest of the money for cigarettes.
These days snack cakes and cigs both make me sick!

Little Debbie Nutty Bars! Stop for gas, pick one of those up for $0.50. Can’t beat it! I have been addicted to those things for longer than most of you have been alive [/grumpy-old-man]

When the “100 Calorie” craze started up, even Little Debbie got into that with the Nutty Bars. Took a look at the packaging.

  • Original Nutty Bars: 1 serving = 2 cookies. Total Calories: 300. 6 packages per box (12 cookies total). Total weight: 6 ounces (not sure about the weight bit exactly). Cost: $1.29
  • 100 Calorie Nutty Bars: 1 serving = 1 cookie. Total Calories: 100. 12 packages per box (12 cookies total). Total weight: 4 ounces. Cost: $2.39

So, they took THE EXACT SAME INGREDIENTS, THE SAME RECIPE, THE SAME MANUFACTURING; gave you 1/3 less product and charged you almost double. Yeah, I don’t think people are quite that dumb. Didn’t last long.

Oh, my. We Americans and our consumerisms.
I got one box of ‘oatmeal cream’ cookies in the freezer. I’ll have to hide and eat one at my snack time. Nope. Not sharing with the Grandwrex.

The Nutty Bars are redonk, as the kids say. At my office (back when I was actually in one) we had a vending machine that had knock off Nutty Bars but they were way not as good.

I never had a Little Debbie until I moved to Georgia back in '84. Until I got out of high school, we always had Hostess stuff from the day-old Hostess store in the house except for a couple of years when the Dolly Madison store existed. Fruit pies kept in the freezer overnight would still be cool at lunchtime when I was corn detasseling. Hot work, that was.

@kaylasdad, I love the Easter ones too. They are surprising less carbs than alot of the others. That whipped filling is mostly air it seems.

I used to take one to lunch every day during my summer job when I was in college. The last time I bought some, probably more that 5 years ago, I didn’t enjoy them as much. So the last time I saw them on the shelf I passed them up.

Used the luggage space for Tastykakes.

I forgot about the Nutty Bars! Those go into the freezer, too!

Hey, Lil’ Debbie, what have you done?
Hey, Lil’ Debbie, who’s the only one?
Hey, Lil’ Debbie, shotgun!
It’s a nice day for a white wedding.
It’s a nice day to start again.

[Grimace musically, and start the guitar riff.]

I just remembered some lines from later in the song, that are actually appropriate for this topic:

There is nothin’ fair in this world
There is nothin’ safe in this world
And there’s nothin’ sure in this world
And there’s nothin’ pure in this world
Look for something left in this world
Start again

Truer words were never sang.:relaxed:

Some LB stuff is superior to Hostess. The only decent Hostess stuff is their small donuts and cinnamon coffee cakes.
A lot of LB stuff tastes like wax but a lot of their stuff doesn’t.
Those caramel cookie bars are better than Twix. Their small “birthday cake” snacks are outstanding.

Most of their other stuff sucks.

Thanks guys. Now I will never again be able to listen to the song White Wedding properly for the rest of my life.

Compared with what Stanley Kubrik did with “Singing in the Rain” and “The Mickey Mouse Club” theme song, this is nothing.

Thanks to this thread I was reminded of Tastykakes and went to Amazon to see if I could mail order them. The answer is yes! Also, they offer a set of 2 boxes of butterscotch krimpets and 2 boxes of peanut butter Tandy cakes. Perfect!

They arrived promptly and no, I’m not going to share how much of them I’ve been eating every night :cupcake:
