Oh lordy, watch out, ___________'s on TWITTER!

(warning, profanity ahead)

Have you ever discovered someone you like has taken the Twitter plunge and felt a little thrill? I’ve found several people I never would have imagined to be on Twitter and it’s always a fun discovery. Just having a Twitter account doesn’t count. They have to actively use Twitter and interact with others at least some of the time. I’ve found directors, writers, actors (not “celebrities”) and critics that gave me a momentary “Really? Wow!” feeling.

I like following people to get information about projects, and to be entertained. I’ve followed and unfollowed almost 400 people in the past year and now my follow list has settled down into the mid 200’s (most of them hardly ever tweet though) and I add someone new maybe once every couple of weeks. Other people I put in lists which I check every now and then.

A recent follow, at least temporarily, is Ellen Barkin. She joined Twitter 2 days ago and already she’s become a legend of funny, gutter-mouth, Bronxgirl Tweets. Her profanity-ridden tweets guarantee to offend the faint-hearted, but while I’m generally of the belief that profanity is rarely necessary (I unfollowed Samuel L. Jackson because he sounded like a caricature bot) for some reason coming from Barkin it’s highly amusing. For now, anyway. I expect it to wear thin very quickly. Some recent examples, including the one that led to a speed record in getting her account verified (mere hours instead of weeks):

There’s already been an article about her Twitter potty mouth in the International Business Times, of all places.

I don’t twitter or tweet or whatever, but following these sorts of things might just be enough to make me start.

She’s funny!

I follow a couple of the Letterman writers (I’m blanking on their first names - brothers named “Stengal”) and they’re a riot. Also Mike Nelson and a couple other MST3K/Rifftrax writers who are also a riot. Ditto @donttrythis - Adam Savage from MythBusters - good stuff.

Rahm Emanuel - formerly Obama’s Chief of Staff, formerly a State Rep. in Illinois, now Mayor of Chicago. Not his Twitter feed, though. His impersonator’s feed. Profane and funny, and what Emanuel often wanted to be able to tweet, by his own admission.

Mischa Collins is one of the best tweeters our there. He’s Castiel on Supernatural and he’s hilarious.

Very fun guy to follow.
