Oh, and they point out something I didn’t catch: that almost every single clip in the ad, while ostensibly being laid at the door of Kerry, came from a period of time when all these people (including MoveOn.org) were AGAINST Kerry and for Dean or other candidates.
The disclaimer I was referring to appeared at the beginning of the ad.
When the ad was first posted on the GWB website it had no disclaimer before the video.
Why would the WH later ad the disclaimer if the original message was crystal clear?
Yeah, he’s the guy who couldn’t beat George fucking Bush Jr. I can’t speak for all Dems, but as far as I’m concerned, “some guy who used to be a politician” would be putting it kindly.
(mutter, grumble)…didn’t “beat George W. Bush”…got more votes…didn’t beat him…just got more votes…(mutter, grumble)
Snap out of it, man!
:smack:
Unless Bush/Cheney was using the hate mail it undoubtedly got in order to fine-tune its message…
I was thinking about that today.
Robin
So, if Kerry fails to beat Bush this time around, who are you libs going to blame then? It sure as shit it won’t be John Kerry, that would involve taking responsibility for your own failure as a party and shit like that. Nevermind that Edwards would be leading Bush by 20 points in the polls right now, never mind that if Gore had carried his fucking home state you could hang all the chads in Florida off my asshairs for all the importance they’d have, nevermind any type of connection with reality, no, I’m sure their will be some real interesting scapegoating going on. I plan on donning a toxic waste suit and voting for Kerry in November, I can’t wait to find out whose fault it is if he loses.
Cause that’s what it sounds like to you. It’s called ingrained bias, when you not only assume you know what people are trying to do, you try to force the issue through assumptive dialogue.
BZZZZT!
Wrong Again!
I’m saying that if a candidate is attacked by the “other side” with innuendoes that compare him or her to a perpetrator of genocide (or other duplicious comparison) it is well within his/her right to call the mud-slingers on their actions.
Are you saying that if a candidate is unfairly attacked he/she should just shut up and let the attackers walk all over their reputation?
Remember, it wasn’t Bush who created the ad with Hitler in it, it was an anti-Bush organization. Essentially, at this point, any anti-Bush organization is pro-Kerry. Why didn’t Kerry immediately disavow any association with MoveOn.Org and criticize them for creating the ad? If he had, it would have made him look good and would have rendered the ad useless for Bush. So why do you suppose he let it stand?
Pick one:
a. Kerry wasn’t even on the presidential radar at the time the ad first came to light.
b. MoveOn.org didn’t create the ad.
c. When MoveOn.org found out about the ad they pulled it from their site and denounced it.
You are right, though, when you say it wasn’t Bush who created an ad with Hitler in it. It’s just his campaign website that’s promoting it.
First, 'cause he had nothing to do with it. The well-inflated “Hitler ads” were connected to him only in the same sense that the Dalai Lama is connected to Kevin Bacon. Second, at the time that the ads were offered to MoveOn, MoveOn was more closely associated with Kerry’s rival, Dean. Just for shits and giggles, if Kerry had expressed any disapproval about something he had squat to do with, the Fox headlines would read “The Leader Graciously Forgives Vile Slanderer, John Heinz Fonda-Kerry.”
Look, I participated, to a limited degree, with the MoveOn contest. For the most part, it was a hoot! Amatuer stuff, sure, but that was the jazz of it! I watched, “chatted”, followed other peoples recommendations, see this one, see that one. Then vote for the ones you like best. It was cool.
Never saw the “Hitler” ads, hardly anybody did! The “hit count” was as low as Sandra Bernhardt in a singles bar (bida-bing!). Damn near nobody saw those ads, and damn near nobody talked about it! I didn’t hear anything about those ads at MoveOn until the story broke outside of MoveOn.
So lets give it one more shot and see if we can dislodge that brain-clot: MoveOn did not produce the ads. About 35 people even saw the goddam things, out of thousands!
Well thanks for that small concession.
And I’ll concede that there’s no evidence that Democrats were behind the ad – might have been Nader supporters… (maybe that’s why Nader’s party dropped him!)… or maybe terrorists…
Let’s see, who else is anti-Bush?
Only people who are against Bush are against seeing Hitler used as a political ploy?
Tell me more about biases, please. I can see you know all about them. :wally
Getting a little testy there? Speaking of “Wally,” you’re going off the wall again…
At least read my posts before you reply!
Or can’t you see through the froth coming out your mouth?
Only people against Bush would make an ad comparing Bush with Hitler.
That’s pretty simple. And calling me names won’t change it to your interpretation.
Shit, I’m against seeing Hitler used as a political ploy, but I’m even more against blaming the victims!
I’m not going to hijack this thread into an argument with you. I’ve made my case, and I’ll sum it up as follows:
[ol]
[li]It’s pretty shitty to use a comparison with any mass murderer as a way to put down a political candidate.[/li][li]It’s just as shitty to blame the victim for the crime. (Saying the ad is Bush comparing Kerry to Hitler).[/li][li]A person has a right to defend themself against this kind of mudslinging.[/li][/ol]
If that’s the bias you accuse me of, fine.
Now if you want to continue calling me names, you just go right ahead.
Now? Now will you people finally listen! Cognitive Dissonance is the number one threat to the Republic, I’m telling you! Wake up before its too late! How many of its shattered victims must you see!
Don’t be so sure. That seems like the sort of thing Reverend Moon might do. He’s pro-Bush, and has access to Hitler’s ghost.
Gore hadn’t been from his “home state” for years. And, in case you didn’t know, it’s in the fucking SOUTH man. Gore hadn’t been the sort of conservative Democrat you need to be to win the south in, well… a long long time.
If Kerry loses Ohio, at least, you can blame me.
No, no, no.
It’s Rational Ignorance that’s the number one threat to the Republic. CD is just a symptom of Rational Ignorance run amok.
CD is RI’s defense mechanism.
“If you kill the head, the body will die.”
For those of you who do not know, I’m not kidding.
Rational Ignorance is kryptonite[sup]TM[/sup] to representative governments. It renders them weak and ineffectual. Eventually, it leads to death.
Looks like the ADL asked Bush/Cheney to remove the Hitler imagery on Monday.
And before anyone weasels, they also condemned Al Gore for what he said.
This is really gonna hurt Bush. He must be fucking desparate.
