Apparently you can’t.
But, seriously, and pardon the hijack, I (being a stupid foreigner) was not aware that Moveon.org was a bunch of nutjobs who work for Kerry. I’ve seen their documentary (‘Truth uncovered’, I think) and found it very professional and, well, good. What’s the connection between Moveon and Kerry and how are they distorting the truth? I’m asking here because some of you good people seem to know a lot more than me about Moveon.org.
FWIW, of course I think all comparisons to the Nazi regime are asinine and using them can only harm your cause.
One connection is Zack Exley, who had worked for MoveOn’s political action committee as Director of Special Projects until he was hired by Kerry this spring as his campaign’s Director of Online Communications and Organization.
So who’s it a grave insult to? People like Soros, who actually survived the Holocaust?
There’s a difference here that I think people are glossing over. It’s NOT ok to use a highly charged word like Nazi or Hitler to demonize your opponent (brownshirt is offensive too, I realize, but not as much). However, comparisons with the kind of fascism that Germany suffered from are legitimate points, and ones we should always be thinking about.
I’m sure we could all agree that if we were sliding towards a society like fascist Germany, it would be perfectly OK to point that out.
Sorry, I’ve already contributed to the “Turn Airman into a liberal” fund.
First of all…You as in “one”, not you as in YOU. Sorry about that…I usually know better.
Second of all…Rove can raise both of his eyebrows for all I care. Gore isn’t running for president this year. Bush is. Had Gore run a similar ad four years ago, or if Kerry ran a similar ad this year, I’d be all over it. Neither Gore nor Kerry, however, have run an ad comparing their opponents to Hitler. Bush did.
No need. He has an open mind and an articulate wife. His doom is sealed.
Again, the eyebrow raising statement is that Al Gore is “Some guy who used to be a politition”. He is far more than that to the Dems.
The first assertion remains in dispute, yer honor. The guy’s too chickenshit to go see Fahrenheit 9/11, after all.
But he is still not running for president, and he still did not run an ad comparing his opponents to Hitler. Bush is, and Bush did.
So? When have I even mentioned the ads? ( And that’s not what the ad did, anyway, but I know that is a totally useless thing to point out on these boards where Bush is generally assumed to be the next coming of Uncle Adolf anyway) I mearly pointed out that your calling Gore “some guy etc…” is misleading, disingenious and stupid. He’s stumping for Kerry, and to claim the Democrats needen’t be held acountable for what he says because he “used to be a polititian” and does not officially represent the Kerry campaign is playing the dishonest technicality game. The Dems are quick to jump all over the Pubbies when they do it, they shouldn’t get a pass when they do it themselves.
I don’t believe it’s a matter of chickenshit. I believe he doesn’t want to give Moore any of his money, which is his privilege. I believe this because he said he’d go if I paid for it. I mailed the check this morning. I’ll be very interested in his reaction to the movie, because though Airman is stubborn as hell, he’s not an idiot. Either way, for or against, his thoughts are going to be, well, interesting.
Right…
That’s what the current Democratic Party is claiming in THEIR ads now… I have already received TWO (2) such allegations in SPAM from the Kerry campaign and the DNC vehicle, saying, “Titled “The Faces of John Kerry’s Democratic Party,” the ad features Adolf Hitler alongside Democrats, including John Kerry. President Bush’s campaign has relied on negative attacks against Kerry, but this is a new low.”
The ad is an obvious attempt to compare Bush with Hitler, not democrats…
I refuse to believe they are stupid enough to make that mistake, and must count this as deliberate deception on the part of the Democratic Party machine. Of course, I’m getting accustomed to associating “lying” with “democrats” lately. A letter I recently got from Ted Kennedy had so many falsehoods in it I had a hard time believing they would even print such a thing!
This is going to be a dirty campaign…
If the message of this ad is so obvious, why did the WH need to issue a disclaimer?
Is this what you mean by a disclaimer?
Since it changes so often (I can’t find the original clip now), maybe I’d better quote it.
Or are you referring to something else?
Please reference your statements!
Found the vid clip again, watched it again, still can’t see how it compares democrats to Hitler, especially when the offending photo of Hitler with his arm raised is immediately followed by a photo of GWB with his arm raised…
Right. That’s comparing democrats with Hitler… we all know GWB is a closet democrat.
Where do you get those kerry-colored glasses? I need to get me some of those.
Maybe it’s only obvious to people who know how to be objective!
Well…why didn’t you? That is what this thread is about, after all. And, yes, Gore is more than “some guy”, but he isn’t running for president. Bush is, and Bush’s campaign has an ad featuring Hitler, a few Democrats, and an “optimistic” President Bush on its website.
I’ll leave it to the reader, but I’m sure than nowhere amongst the 29 ads on the right side of this page will one find a video that includes Hitler. Please do let me know if such a thing exists.
Are you trying to say that it’s perfectly respectable for a mainstream presidential candidate to feature one of the worst perpetrators of genocide in a campaign ad? It really sounds like you’re trying to somehow excuse it. Why is that?
I think the guys at slate.com sum it all up pretty well:
