And with a name like PolyCarp! tch!
He is an indeterminate but multiple number of fishes, and loafs.
I just want to point out that we generally would have similar “debates” here anytime Bush drafted an executive order or law - however innocuous. And while many posters across the spectrum would hash out the fine points in a calm manner there would be a share of nutcases not amenable to reason.
And they’ve got 200 couches where I can sleep tight.
Yeah. We suck. We know. You told us, already. Thanks for sharing.
Bush is basically a criminal. People would pile on him for ignoring the law because they were justified to do so. Obama’s been nothing except accomodating to his enemies and still they treat him like shit. We have gone far far beyond anyone being able to say “But your guy did it too!”.
No, our guy didn’t. Bush did. Attacking him is justified. Attacking Obama is not because that’s all the right wing does

Note that Obama’s order just extends Reagan’s.
Personally, I find the conservative media keeps raising my opinion of the Obama administration. I figure they’re watching him like hawks and reporting every bad thing he does. So I hear what they’re saying he’s doing and ask myself “how bad is that?” And then I figure everything else he’s doing must be less bad than that because if there was worse stuff the conservative media would have led with that.
So when I hear things like Michelle Obama hugging the Queen of England or Barack Obama bowing to the Emperor of Japan or Janet Napolitano saying the system worked or an executive order extending the diplomatic immunity of Interpol and I’m told I’m supposed to be outraged, my actual response is to think “Is that all they’re doing? There must not be any real scandals out there.”
You mean Inspector Zenigata doesn’t have the authority to arrest Lupin?
For those of you scratching your heads, I’m referencing an anime called Lupin III
Is anyone else tickled by the fact that conservatives are outraged over an extension of something Reagan did?
Can we bag Kissinger yet?
Nah, it figures. Reagan **obviously **did it right and perfect the first time around, so extending what he did must be akin to writing addenda to the Bible and codicils to the Ten Coms. Blasphemy !
Same as it ever was. Notice how almost all anti-Obama screeds are merely recycled anti-Bush screeds?
Two points. First, several of the more conspicuous conservatives on this board in this thread are defending Obama on this issue - and not for the first time. Secondly, your little screed was just about identical in tone to those Freepers you despise so much - just directed at an opposite target.
Not seeing it.
Waving it away as just the same thing pointed in a different direction wholly ignores the substance of what Bush did and what Obama is doing.
They are worlds apart. No recycling to be found.
I haven’t been here long enough to know offhand who’s a conservative and who’s liberal, with a few exceptions. So I have no idea who you’re talking about. Usually I don’t look at names of posters anyway.
Second, it might be identical in content, but my target is valid, unlike theirs. There’s pretty much no way conservatives are going to admit they’re wrong, so shutting off this avenue of attack just because it’s identical to what the conservatives used to do harms liberal interests.
Not particularly, no. Care to give some examples?
Obama Messiah = Bush Messenger of God
Obama is an empty suit
Obama wants to institute a New World Order (In all fairness this is a criticism of every President made by the fringe)
Nope. It just points out that the right is recycling anti-Bush screeds and retrofitting them to be about Obama.
Look at the ‘Obama bailout’ arguments. They completely forget that the Bush admin started the bailouts.
You should watch Maddow more. ;p She did a great segment on the Tea Party movement pointing out how similar it is to failed leftist movements. Not Obama specific, but it just shows the mimicry coming in on the right.
Definitely. There’s still people who are convinced George W Bush was secretly an African Muslim who was trying to confiscate all our guns so we couldn’t resist his plans to set up communist death panels.
Watch Maddow regularly (her show downloads to my iPhone and I watch it while commuting).
You seem to be saying that disagreeing with someone is the same no matter who is doing it or what they are disagreeing about. By that simple measure then sure…they are similar.
The devil is in the details though. Anti-Bush people were pissed about things like starting an unnecessary war or torturing people as a matter of policy. Anti-Obama people are on about him being a Manchurian Candidate and making Interpol our new sekkrit overlords.
Hardly the same thing at all.
