When, or if, or should; President Obama rescind Executive Order 13233?
This is the Executive Order that seals some of the records of Presidents H W Bush and Regan in regards to the Iran Contra affair.

That executive order is not the one you’re looking for…
That would be rescinding the command to “Execute Order 66”, which was issued by Darth Cheney.

This is important beyond the basic fact of easier access to historical documents.
Here we have a president giving up an aspect of power by choice. That’s pretty huge.
Does this nullify all the attempts by Bush & Cheney to restrict access to their records?

I am feeling young and giddy.
Not George Washington huge, but Huge. He’s done himself proud for his very first day. I hope the ‘Once the Executive Branch gets more power, they always keep it’ crowd, sits up and takes notice. It’s victories, like this, that will show, where the real difference will be. Not left/right partisanship, but redefining how government works and how it affects our lives.

That doesn’t actually affect his power as President, only as ex-President.
It affects his power in the sense that he can’t keep what he does as President quiet until people forget. What he does can be scrutinized and judged much earlier because of this.
