Oh, no! Obama Imposes One-World Gov't On US!!1! (Interpol Exec order)

Point of order. Obama never claimed to be the messiah; Bush did claim that God told him to run.

Like I said before, the specifics are different but the tone is there. I think a comparison could fairly be made between the birther protests and the TANG controversy, especially when you consider the Dan Rather-Mary Mapes actions in 2004.

And there were certainly others - you didn’t need to be a Bush supporter to note that some of his enemies were, frankly, nuts. The same can be said of President Obama and his enemies. And while it shouldn’t need to be said that none of this exempts either man from honest criticism - that seems to be the attitude taken by some in this thread (like Whack-a-Mole and YogSosoth), who would dismiss any criticism of Obama as just extreme right-wing muttering.

Honest criticism is fine. Great even. If you dislike a policy of Obama’s by all means criticize it on its merits. I have zero problem with that and actually think it is healthy to engage in those debates.

I also agree that there are wingnuts on both sides. I’ll call out lefty wingnuts as readily as righty wingnuts. If someone starts going on here about how (say) Bush & Co. used a controlled demolition of the Twin Towers you’ll see me opposed to them and defending Bush on that count (probably has happened on this Board somewhere if you feel like looking).

That said the conservatives have outdone themselves. Not only in the sheer volume of dumbass criticism but also in its sheer lunacy. Worse, the “wingnuts” are not on the “wings”. The right fringe is now front and center. They are IN Congress and blathering the same bullshit of the fringe (death panels, Obama is not a citizen to name two that are in the official legislative record).

So I stand by there being a HUGE difference in the opposition leveled at Bush and Obama.

True or not, that’s not a “point of order.”

Sung to the tune of The Pink Panther:

“Pedant, pedant. Pedant pedant pedant…”

Well, God says it IS!

Those are not close to equal. You are far too defensive.

And anti-Bush people called him a Manchurian candidate for a Neo-Conservative new world order. SSDD.

It’s much the same. Rehashed, recycled.

Yes, but I’m not talking about what Obama and Bush say, I am talking about what their detractors say about them.

Your example is a turn of phrase. For Obama they were literally making that claim (if not using those exact words).

Unless I missed the part where some in Congress wrote a letter to Bush asking him to provide his birth certificate to prove he is actually a US citizen.

Oh I see, so unless Bush IS Barack Obama you cannot see a similarity.

Huh?

Some wingnuts call Bush a Manchurian Candidate trying to usher in some neo-con NWO.

Some congresscritters send a letter to Obama demanding he produce his birth certificate (and also propose a Bill to demand presidential candidates produce a birth certificate).

These two things are not the same.

It seems to me that the original question has been answered spawning a run of fish puns, but has now deteriorated into one more tiresome volley of “our side is better than your side even when we are doing the same thing in the same way.”

Enough. Closed.
