Yes. Yes you did. Hang your head in shame.
:o
Well, that’s going a little overboard. You could just say sorry.
Okay, sorry.
Was that the sound of whoooshing air?
My point was that I wasn’t accusing anyone here of being a racist. Saying that we all like to argue “for the hell of it” was just my tongue in cheek way of absolving those of us who I think are making disingenuous arguments. The disingenuous arguments made by some on this board are not rationalizations used to mask racism.
Does that make sense?
Was that the sound of a meta-woosh?
God, I hope not, its too much like post-modernist irony.
I can’t believe some people are still using the “He wasn’t even born in America - he doesn’t care about Americans” thing. I just saw this on another message board and just about flipped my lid. That has been proven to death. Last I checked, Hawaii was a state.
Our children’s school district is not showing the speech, but not because of any political reason. Most of our kids will be in the lunchroom at that time, and they’re afraid all the classrooms and all the schools logging in at the same time may tax the bandwidth a little too much. The district is taping the speecjh and will send copies to each school for the children to watch later. We’ll be recording it and watching it with the children that night. Hubby and I are both technically Republicans, although I voted for Obama: just like anything else they watch at this age, we watch it first or with them to answer any questions they may have. It’s a historical occasion, and one the children will remember: what’s the harm?
If they think that’s bad just wait until they hear what he has planned for next month… I hear he got the idea from Kenya.
At what point can we start calling these mentally-disturbed people out for what they are: mentally-disturbed people?
Behold: a woman so distraught that her little darlings might be forced to listen to the president urge them to excel in school that she actually breaks down in tears:

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Of course they don’t want their kids to excel and stay in school. If the kids get any sort of education at all, they’ll be able to figure out that their peckerwood parents and white-trash preacher have been trying to sell them a bill of goods for years. Can’t have that! Nope, the young’uns have to grow up just as stupid as their kin, otherwise they’ll git uppity.
I think what it comes down to is that they’re afraid that seeing him talk in school will legitimize him in the minds of their children. It isn’t the message so much as it’s the messenger.
Was that the sound of post-modernist post-modernist irony?
Turns out some parents at our school are none too pleased at our school’s planned delay in showing the speech, and they’ve written an open letter to the district administration, CCed to the local papers. The controversy is all over our local blogs.
I’m interested to see what develops.
There is something dangerously wrong with an allegedly ‘democratic’ society that is afraid to let its children hear free speech from its chosen leader. I don’t really want the USA to fall into civil war, or to become a sort of gigantic Iran, but I can’t help feeling that it is giving itself no other options. It’s beyond belief to imagine the USA could break up. But that’s what we believed about the USSR. Maybe it should, maybe the Bible states should lose themselves as Dixiestans
I’d be all for that idea, if it weren’t for the fact that BP keeps making huge oil finds in the Gulf. We can’t have Baptistan and Crackertopia becoming members of OPEC.
No, the best we can hope for is for a few of the bigger teleministries to take up the “Heaven’s Gate” idea. Hmmmm…I wonder if the CIA ever got anywhere with their “remote mind-control” experiments.
I just saw a clip from Conan O’Brien on Friday:
The president wants kids to stay in school and get an education. Just like he did. Because doing so will help the country stay strong.
Stupid parents say they want their kids to stay at home and play X-Box all day rather than have their ears burn from hearing the voice of the socialist Anti-Christ.
I hope the crop of presidents forty, fifty years from now will NOT be from one of these families.
