Oh sure. Blame the fenugreek leaves.

Spotted this recently in an Indian restaurant menu, and had to share. Highlighting is mine.

Butter Chicken . . . . . . $13.95

Soft, smoky tandoori strips in our special kasuri methi and ginger-flavored creamy tomato sauce. Our chef blames the fenugreek leaves for adding such an exotic flavor to this delicacy.

Well if that’s your attitude, why did you include them? What, are the leaves jumping into the pot when you’re not looking? I say, be a mensch, pal. Take some responsibility for your own cooking. It’s a poor craftsman who blames his tools.

Sheesh.

And here I thought you were responding to the revelation that a fenugreek processing plant has been generating the smell of delicious maple syrup that has permeated all of Manhattan on several occasions (one of the incidents was featured in 30 Rock).
