What makes you so sure the “My” is referring to you in any way? Bill is the one that put it there, after all.
AHunter, unless I’m very much mistaken you cannot customize MacOS X at the level I’m talking about without downloading X and some window managers. It’s the difference between switching paint jobs and buying a whole bunch of different cars.
It seems to me that all of the things you mentioned are simply theme changers. That’s all XP gives you as well. Switching window managers under X alters the entire GUI (with the exception of one keybinding: Ctrl-Alt-Backspace kills X unless you’ve explicitly rebound it). You can run window managers as different as UDE and PWM. It allows display hacks like 3D-Desktop. And I haven’t even gotten into the geeky ones.
My point is, going from that richness to flipping through themes would be intolerable to me at this point. I’d have to install X and effectively waste the (large) amount of my purchase cost that went to paying Apple for their proprietary, inflexible GUI.
OK, that makes sense.
Is it being replaced with “Our or MS’s”?
You know, it’s not often I shoot snot from my nose.
Thank you.
