Dick Tufield, who voiced the Robot on Lost in Space, died on Sunday. He and Jonathan Harris were one of the great comedy duos of their time; the Savoy and Brennan, the Edward Everett Horton and Eric Blore of the mid-1960s.
::: Waves arms wildly:::
Danger Will Robinson, Danger! Danger!
Another part of my youth is gone.
Will is on his own now.
Dick Tufeld started in radio. he did voice for a lot of Irwin Allen.
Dang, another childhood memory takes a hit.
If I remember correctly Harris carved that part out of nothing and launched himself into the series.
Still remember making a life size version of the robot out of boxes and stuff in the garage.
Another site says he was also the voice of Mr. Bubble. Man, taking a bath with him was a real treat when I was little.
Wait, that didn’t come out right.
Jonathan Harris was the Quentin Crisp of sci-fi TV. “People ask me if I’m British,” I saw him say in the interview. “I tell them, no, I am affected.” I remember the Robot quoting a women’s prison film to Dr. Smith once: “You’ll be back. They *all *come back.”
I loved the high-camp Lost in Space; Star Trek was just too serious and pompous for me.
Good legacy, even though it does not compute.
And from the Bronx. And apparently straight, being married to his high school sweetheart until his death. They used to lie in bed coming up with insults for Robot.
Awwww. I loved Robot. And Dr. Smith.
I.e., not indulging in conjugal relations. :dubious:
You are still young, I fear. There comes a time when making up insults, um, works better.
