Yes, I know these aren’t really encouraged. In fact, they’re discouraged. They take up bandwidth, etc. etc. A good reason not to do them, and I apologize right off for doing it anyway.
dreamer, who has been here all of nine months, is hitting the big 1,000.
Now I’m sure those of us who have been here a little while realize that about two zillion posters come and go. They lurk, or they post once and they’re gone. And even though 1000 posts isn’t as “elite” as it once was, it’s still pretty darn good.
dreamer’s case, of course, is unique. She’s not your typical poster - she’s a fundamental Christian who happens to post here on the SDMB. I know she’s not the only one, but it seems to me that fundamental Christians ordinarily don’t stick around on this message board very often - we’re too outspoken, too critical of their belief system.
But dreamer is different. I’m glad she’s here, and I am very happy to read her posts. I consider her to be a very nice person, and a good friend.
Isn’t dantheman the coolest guy here?!?! Besides of course CelticCowboy :).
Really what happened was I was telling dantheman that I just posted #999 and he was like “yeah, no big deal”. So I explained to him all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into those 999 posts and how just because he’s at 3 thousand and something posts that it doesn’t mean that he’s like, special or anything.
Really though, thanks dantheman. I appreciate your kind words and I’m glad I’ve gotten the chance to know you :). I’m glad I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to find this messge board and meet the fine people I’ve met here and continue to meet. It’s been a great 1000 and I hope the next 2 or 3 thousand will be even better.
You’re quite welcome. I actually had noticed before that you were approaching four digits.
The thing is, the more you’re here, the less these numbers carry any kind of meaning. When you’re starting out on this (or any other) message board, you want very much to become part of the crowd. You want people to react to your posts, in a positive way. It can take quite a while for one to get over the hump. 1000 posts is one step.
Well, far be it from me to add even more bandwidth and such to the party, but I just have to.
Congrats, dreamer! I admire and respect you for sticking to your views, even though people may not agree with what you have to say. This is one case in which Voltaire’s words eminently suit the occasion (well, sort of): I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
I have found you to be a very nice person, and look forward to reading what you have to say. While Great Debates is not really my cup of tea (and so I miss most of what you may have to tell us there), I wish you all the best in telling pople what, how, and why you believe what you do. Don’t let them back you down or into a corner!
May your next thousand (and more) posts be as stellar and illustrious as your first 1000 have been. Look forward to talking to you some more later on; cheers!
love ya’ to vanilla Why did you change your name? vanillanice sounds nice, though when I first saw it I thought it read vanillaice. Oh and I had no idea that those things around here were called gorillas!
