Hillary’s answer to the healthcare question is lacking because she’s not making it clear how failure to require everyone to purchase insurance will lead to cherry-picking of clients by insurance companies. Am I missing something here?
Obama is on the ball. “Insurance companies would like a mandate”. Whether or not that’s true, it’s intuitive that this would be the case and he’s smart to state this.
They are both doing well. HRC was more on the money with healthcare but it was a draw. “Boring” and wonkish is exactly what Obama needs to do to get past the carictature of all speechifying without substance. HRC showing her intellect and apparently honest passion for what she thinks is important is what she should have done all along.
Obama benefits more than her at this point from a wonkish performance.
Ah and now he gets a chance to say that more experience making bad judgements is not what we need. Good.
Good answers so far. Obama gave the exact right answer on retaining the right to protect America against the resurgence of Al-Qaeda, and I expect that Clinton will now have to backtrack and say that she too reserves that right.
Obama appears all business tonight. I have this odd sense Clinton knows she’s not going to beat him. I know hunches and non-academic inferences are scoffed here on the SDMB, but sometimes your gut tells you exactly what is correct.
I just meant that she didn’t say so forcefully in her answer, and before the break it sounded like she wanted a chance to say that. I don’t doubt that it is in fact her position.
His answer could have been better on the pledge. On the very sheet Russert held up, Obama said “Yes…” and then gave a bunch of qualifications. The same qualifications he now gives. He should have pointed that out.
