Bacon Explosion! Basically, it’s bacon wrapped around Italian sausage, seasoned liberally with BBQ rub and sauce, and smoked. When it’s cooked through, you slice and eat.
I think my husband and I are going to be giving this a try on Sunday.

If you deep fried the whole thing before slicing, it’d be even more ultimate. For ultimate ultimacey, you’d serve the slices with ranch dressing.
And melt cheese on it too.
Yup - I saw this yesterday. I’m definitely planning on doing this on Sunday. Luckily, I have a bottle of Jack’s Stack squirreled away in the pantry for a special occasion, so I just need to find a good rub recipe. I hope there’s room in the smoker…
You’re quite right. It is because of this kind of savviness that I value your friendship.
Sorry, I can’t condone putting ranch or cheese on properly made BBQ. Ugh!
I have a smoker and am a dedicated BBQ fan. Whatever else I might say about that dish, I wouldn’t classify it as “properly made BBQ.” Understand, though, that I am not saying it wouldn’t be very tasty.
I think I’m in love.
The link is dead - possibly its virtual arteries exploded.
Not a Midwesterner I see.
I’ve seen that before (though the link’s not working now) and I want some.
I might then have some of this for desert:
Maybe top it off with a bacon doily

And have a meatshipas the centerpiece.
It seems to have hit major newspapers yesterday and today. I imagine the website has been overwhelmed.
Google on “bacon explosion” recipe and a bunch of hits come up. This one from today’s Kansas City Star has the detailed recipe on the second page (some others have an abridged recipe, e.g. not specifying exactly when and how much rub to add). This link may expire by day’s end, though.
Keep in mind it’s meant to be cooked low and slow. A smoker is the way to go if you don’t like grease fires.
Is a meatship like a meat cake?
And the bacon cheeseroll:

I don’t want to know what that thing is “frosted” with. No I do not.
Mashed potatoes.
I too would hate to imagine it being crisco or something…
Born in Omaha, raised in Kansas City, live in Indianapolis. It’s the Kansas City in me that makes a clear distinction between “BBQ” and “grilling”.
Yes, I’m guessing that’s what happpened.
Here’s one I found called the “ultimate fattie”. It involves pork sausage, muenster cheese, a poblano chile, and pepperoni (!)
Low fat ranch dressing, I’m watching my weight.
