What kind of director casts his own daughter in nude and sexual situations in his own movies?
I let it slide with Trauma, but Phantom of the Opera is going too far. I kept wondering if the naked Asia Argento was saying “How’s THIS pose, daddy? Am I performing well, daddy?”
This stuff makes me wonder if Dario did some touchy-touchy with daughter at an earlier point in time.
It also makes me think that, if it happened, Asia actually liked it.
There is a strange relationship going on here, people.
Umm, Bossk: You need to make sure you never see the Stendhal Syndrome, seriously. Or Scarlet Diva for that matter.
FWIW, I think it’s more a psychological thing. Like, working through issues with your art.
If you want to be creeped out, compare Piper Laurie’s look in Trauma to recent photos of Daria Nicolodi, Asia’s mother IRL.
Argento may have issues, but as one of his characters said in OPERA (TERROR AT THE OPERA in the US), it’s a bad idea to “use movies as a guide for reality.”
His films are supposed to be disturbing. If casting his daughter weirded you out some, that was part of the point.
Also worth mentioning, Argento is not known to get along particularly well with his actors. Perhaps his daughter is someone with whom he could work on a close enough level to do the scenes in those films.
In any case, there is no reason to assume that the films give evidence of any kind of incestuous relationship.
