To add upon what ianzin said, yes, it’s less of an accomplishment. The point of a Goldberg contraption is to get it to work all the way through without any errors.

It’s simply not as impressive knowing it wouldn’t follow through on every contrivance, as the payoff is in watching and anticipating the whole chain of events all the way to its end.

It’s like watching a huge dominoes display, that took weeks to set up, cascade only to fail half way through, and the creator has to step into the middle to continue the cascade after the misfire. While you appreciate the intense amount of work and creativity that went into it, ultimately it’s disappointing. You want to see the whole chain fall and come to its glorious conclusion.
