OK, I'm an idiot. How do I copy a desktop pic?

Screensaver, that is. I put one in, but that was so long ago.

So, I just want to copy it, and save it to a file.

Thanks,
hh

I’m confused, what are you trying to do?

Sorry about that!
Well, I have a screensaver. I put it onto the computer some time back. It is no longer in one of my files. I need to save the picture, but, I can’t find where it is on the computer to copy it from.
Thanks,
hh

Sorry, still a but confused. I think what you are saying is that you have a screen saver that flips through pictures, and you want a copy of one of those pictures?

If that’s the case you need to go to the screen saver settings. Right click on your desktop, chose Personalize. Click on Screen Saver. If it’s your current screen saver, click on settings. If it’s not, then click on the drop down box, pick that screen saver and then click settings. In the settings box there will be a spot that shows you what folder the screen saver is getting it’s pictures from (it’ll be next to a button marked ‘browse’. Go to that folder and your picture should be in there somewhere.

Let me know if you need more detailed steps.

Oh, and these directions will be slightly different depending on which version of Windows you’re using, but they’ll still be pretty close.

If, of course, the OP is using Windows at all. He didn’t specify.

I thought about that later. I figure if the OP is running something other then a PC with Windows my directions won’t make any sense at all and he’ll probably know something’s wrong.

Windows it is!

Thanks, guys! That ought to do it for me. I had just forgot how to do all of that, it’s been so long since I even gave a hang about what I had on my desktop background!

Thanks, again,
hh

Wait, are you talking about the background pic on your desktop (the ‘wallpaper’), or a screensaver (that thing that comes on and shows pictures or whatever if you haven’t moved the mouse or typed in several minutes)?

handsomeharry, are you confusing “desktop background” with “screensaver”? The desktop background is the picture on your desktop. A screensaver is something that shows up (like an animation) after you’ve left your computer idle for a few minutes.

There ARE screensavers that can display a picture (or cycle through several of them) – this is what Joey P was talking about – but is that what you meant?

Let us know if you haven’t figured it out yet.

Well, per the title of the OP…(regarding my intelligence level)…

It is in fact the desktop background.
Sorry about that!

Best wishes,
hh

Don’t worry–it’s a common mistake. I think it made more sense back when we called the desktop background “wallpaper.”

That’s even easier. Right click/personalize/Desktop Backround. Click on Browse and the actual file will be right there. Just grab the picture with the right mouse button and drag it to wherever you want it.
