Two-year-old taken hostage at Wal-Mart
I couldn’t help but laugh at this part of the article:
I haven’t watched any video, but I did see the picture of the squatting cop in front of Wallace. I just got this image of Wallace starting his countdown, and the cop just standing up and saying, ‘OK, negotiations are over now,’ and then popping him in the head. It’s like something that would happen on Family Guy.
That’s pretty much exactly how the video goes. The guy on the chair never moves, I suspect based only on his reactions in the video that it was actually suicide by cop and the kid was just window dressing.

Well, I can see the cop’s reasoning–countdown to prevent harm to a kid = do something decisive to resolve the crisis. I guess brainensplatten fits the bill but…he couldn’t have just rapped him on the head with a nightstick, or walked up to the dude and said, “Safety kill–you have to let her go now.” I’d make a poor cop.
My guess is that it’s because of the risk that the next sentence is, “then the hostage taker pulled the trigger.”
