OK, so my boss is reading my coworker's email . . .

Strange as it may seem, I’ve never seen an episode of Scooby Doo in my life.

Mr. Lissa, are you reading this? Anything you can suggest or point out that may have been overlooked?

Since she didn’t actually show up at her conference/training, she was missing for longer than that it seems.

Well, well . . . I must admit that this thread was my last thought when I went to bed last night and my first when I awoke this morning. And I’ve been on edge all day, checking in at regular intervals waiting for something to happen . . . and today turned out to be like one of those episodes of THE X-FILES that the network had promised you all week WOULD FINALLY REVEAL EVERYTHING and nothing got revealed at all: ha ha–fooled you!

Sigh.

Don’t worry, I’ll be back tomorrow, neglecting my job, housework, basic hygiene, etc, as the drama unfolds. Or not.

It was nice to know that the Meter Man turned out not to be scary.

I’ve been following this all day, but didn’t have a good post. But can I be the crazy waitress who’s spotted the missing person at her restaurant? And only remembers that I served her Coke with no ice?

All joking aside, I hope this turns out well for all involved auntie em.

Let’s hope CNN doesn’t pick up this story - they’d surely go live 24/7 with no real news to report but plenty of speculation. We could beat them to the punch by handicapping the possible scenarios - let’s review:

Drug/alcohol binge (very likely)
Spur of the moment vacation/elopement (less likely)
Foul Play; kidnapping or worse (sadly getting more likely)
Serious medical problem (possible)
Serious accident, car or otherwise (possible)
Intentional disappearance due to harrassment (possible)
Psycological problems (possible)
Simple irresponsible behavior (getting less and less likely)
Sudden and total amnesia (unlikely)
Alien abduction (possible)
Witness protection program (unlikely)
Won the lottery (unlikely)
Job dissatisfaction (unlikely)

Please add other scenarios to this list as you see fit.

::crossing fingers in hopes that mc is okay:: (getting less likely)

In addition to what Ferret said, this is also not the first time she’s disappeared for several days… which is also why we’re all still comfortable making Scooby Doo jokes – if it was highly unusual for this person to disappear there would be much more worry and fretting, and a lot less chanting of “fire the bitch, fire the bitch!”

Whilst everyone is summing up information, why doesn’t someone post a quick timeline summary to help all of us who are a little confused.

Well, there’s always

Embezzled the company treasury and is on her way to Rio with it (unlikely)
Intentional disappearance due to psychological problems (possible)

Happy to. And,auntie em, when you check in tomorrow, please let me know if I got anything wrong. Also, you might want to start a new thread…Act II, as it were…
June 9 Missing co-worker leaves for the afternoon, mentioning that she has a Dr’s appointment.
June 10 Missing co-worker does not show. Book checked: city name only, with three days blocked out & MC’s name. Turns out city name is where she is (supposed to be) going to a conference.
June 13 MC does not show up on payday, (slight) panic ensues, hence the title of this thread “My boss is checking my co-worker’s email.” We find out MC did not, in fact show up for conference. Brother is called, cops are involved.
June 14 auntie em and Skip Magic go to office to indulge in buying of tickets on company computer. Find boss calling locksmith to change locks. Although, I kinda think auntie em was hoping to see the MC there, quietly collecting paycheck.
June 16 MC still missing. Involvement of old dude (meter-guy) who is apparently missing, too. Board of Directors now involved. auntie em seriously concerned. Finds out about Trucker (boyfriend from 2 years ago) and online creepy dudes MC likes to think are good date fodder.
June 17 We find out Meter guy is actually running airport shuttle service, and took her two weeks ago. All checked out with rec’t. And trucker (from 2 years ago) is back in picture, molesting, according to someone who lives in apt. complex. auntie em then leaves work early, frustrating us all and causing us to want to throw our monitors out the window and leave for KC on the next plane.

And here we are.

While I think this is most likely an intentional disappearance, a few things really bother me:

  • MC was being harrassed by unstable ex-BF (Trucker).
  • MC did not show up at the out-of-town seminar.
  • MC’s car is at her home. Somebody took her someplace.

oh you left out…

As sand flows through an hours glass…

That’s true.

However, her boss seems to be pretty passive (at least he has been with all the things she has done in the past) and this seems like such an aggressive action to me. Maybe this was the final straw. I was just curious to know if auntie em had asked him about why he did that.

Monday - MC at work
Tuesday - MC no-show, note in book saying “OtherCity Tues-Thurs” (no explanation, not yet scary)
Wednesday - no call, nothing
Thursday - no call, nothing
Friday - MC no-show though she hasn’t “booked off” anything, Boss discovers that there was a conference in OtherCity but MC was a no-show. Checks MC’s apartment, car in lot, no MC. Has history of running off for several days with outlandish excuses.
Saturday - Boss changes locks.
Monday - Still no word from MC, police looking into it after Brother files missing person’s report, MC’s company credit card cancelled
Tuesday - still no MC

Sum total - no one has seen or heard from MC, since one week ago Monday

Notes on MC:

  • has a history of disppearing for days with really, really pathetically bad excuses e.g.? “I accidentally drove to the neighbouring state and no one would let me use the phone!”
  • hints at relationships and liaisons while revealing nothing
  • has some unspecified, invisible disability
  • has history of complaints against her for behaviour issues
  • may be (or may be not) being harassed by creepy ex, Trucker boyfriend
  • may or may not have Mystery Man boyfriend that she may or may not be moving in with and may or may not have met on the internet
  • not on good terms with family
  • treats Boss like doormat, throws a fit if she gets in trouble for disappearing for days

That cover it all?

Oh, got it. WAG: Since the boss’ higher-ups are now involved, maybe they/company security are putting pressure on him to take stronger action.

'zactly.

Well, yeah, although her boss has been pretty lenient in the past, auntie em’s co-worker has never strayed this far and long from the office. True, in the past, she might have been missing for a few days, but when it came to be a week since she had been last seen, hadn’t shown up at the conference at which she’d been scheduled to make an appearance, and had missed payday to boot, there was very little leniancy the boss had left to give out. Her car hadn’t moved from her apartment complex, she wasn’t in her apartment, the cell phone was turned off (or completely out of range) and she hadn’t checked in. The possibility that foul play, loss of a purse, or a bad medical condition had popped meant that her keys (along with other identifying information–both personal and business) were out there, somewhere, possibly waiting to be picked up by a less than honest person.

In the past, with her going AWOL for only a few days, the changing of the locks probably wasn’t high on his lists of priorities. This time, however, the length of absence was greater, absolutely no one (thus far) has seen her since she last left the office and she hasn’t been in contact–even for her paycheck. I think the boss would have been irresponsible to have not changed the locks with all this extra information. Plus, as the boss, he needed to take extra precautions to satisfy the insurance company. If someone did take her keys and “broke in” to the office and stole the computer equipment (or even auntie em’s prized space heater), he’d probably have quite the uphill battle with the insurance blokes when he filed a claim.

If this gets any more serious, I’m gonna have to tell the co-worker to quit hiding out at my house and get her butt back to work.

Just had to check this thread one more time before I go to bed. I smell a Lifetime movie in the making…

This is my absolute favorite thread of all time. Seriously. Just had to share that.

ok, thread is open , finger poised on the refresh button…
Is everybody here?
