Missing Coworker, Part II

Starting a new thread as requested, because there is news. And I mean NEWS.

I don’t know where to start.

We just got a call on MC’s line. I picked up, and when the person asked for her (I simply said, “She’s not in,” because although we are not trying to conceal her disappearance, we also haven’t just been blurting it out indiscriminately), and subsequently asked when we expected her back, I confessed that we didn’t know. I asked if perhaps I could help her and the person said no, she needed to speak to MC.

“You have NO IDEA when she’ll be back?” she prodded.

I confessed that she had disappeared.

Well.

The woman identified herself as MC’s friend (let’s call her “Friend”), who sometimes comes in to visit. I knew her right away–I have met this woman on several occasions, and have even held one of her grandchildren.

SO GET THIS.

After I relay the whole Disappearance Saga to Friend, she tells me that she has spoken to MC as recently as Sunday evening (this past SUnday, June 15–I triple-clarified that one), when MC called her and asked her to wire some money via Western Union. Friend agreed to wire the money, and asked, “Where are you?”

MC said she’d call back (after asking someone in the background, “Is there a Western Union here?”), and hung up.

Friend hadn’t heard from MC since, and was calling here to try to find her, because she was beginning to worry.

At that point, I asked Friend if she would mind holding while I got my boss, and relaying this information to him.

Boss got on the phone and talked for about 20 minutes, while I sat in his office eating my fingers. When he got off, he said, “I’m calling the cops,” and called the detective. At that point I left his office to let him speak privately, but told him he HAD to fill me in.

He just came into my office and told me that:

a) Not only had MC been in touch with Friend last Sunday, she had also been in touch with Friend during the time she was supposed to have been at that three-day training in Salina! All she told Friend during that time was that she was in a hotel–no mention of what city or anything–but given MC’s weird, mysterious nature, I don’t think that Friend really got worried until she asked for money on Sunday, and then never called back.

b) Oh, it gets better: MC was also in touch with Friend during that two weeks that she was out of state for that medical testing (remember, when she returned several days late, but said she was stuck in a hospital for two weeks and couldn’t call us?). At some point during that trip, MC called Friend and said that she was getting married. Then she called Friend the following day and said that she had gotten married!!! At this point, everyone’s guessing that she must have married Trucker, but even Friend does not know his last name!

c) At some point between the marriage and the recent disappearance, MC contacted Friend from Nebraska, where she’d gone to visit New (Trucker?) Husband (of course, that time she came back).

Can you believe this shit??!??!?!?!?

Boss is still worried, and so is Friend (whose contact information has now been given to the police). Friend said that MC “sounded funny” when she called on Sunday for the money, but of course in light of all the drama, that tidbit may have been an afterthought.

Anyway, as I was relaying the news to trishdish over the phone, it occurred to me that there is a photo of a man on MC’s bulletin board in her office, and I’m not sure, but I think it’s Trucker (I remember her showing me the picture eons ago, and googling on about how cute he was, and I really do think she said it was Trucker). So I went in there, pulled it down, and gave it to my boss.

Holy God.

This shit is insane.

Oh.My.God.

She’s just holed up in some hotel with somebody and calling friends for money!!!?!!!?

Ten to one - She’s in Vegas.

Any takers?

Holy crap.

This is turning into a nationwide manhunt…
SDMB to the resuce! I think we’d make a great search party, and then we’d get to find out what’s going on first when we find her.

[must stop reading board and grade papers…must grade…must…]

Oh. My. God.

I’m guessing a beach in Mexico.

EE-EEK!!!

I was so excited for news that I could hardly read the post.

BTW-- DOES she have kids? and if so , where are they???

**BitterBetty ** and I are on the edges of our seats!! This is getting weirder and weirder…

I’ll buy Vegas as well.

Is she by chance a city alderman from Lethbridge?

Well, if MC is telling people she’s gotten married, you’ve got the guy’s name if they search Kansas and Nebraska for marriage licenses. Presumably, you have her name and SSN, so the vital statistics bureaus in both states can look for marriage licenses issued.

OK, I have been following this thread. And I realize that this is a major development.

But still. That thread title made me think you found her head in a box in the copy room!!!

A thousand to one that, if this is true, she’s now a jobless happily married trucker’s wife in Vegas.

Dude, if I ever go to Vegas to get married, I’m pretty sure I’ll let work know that I won’t be in. But if she gets away with this, I might change my mind about that plan. Inspiration strikes!

calming down Impulsive wedding, calling friends for money but not following up… nah, still sounds like a bipolar adventure (still way too much like a couple other bipolar folks I know who’ve done similar things.)

I still wanna know about the kid!!

Have we talked yet about who will be cast in each part? I have someone perfect in mind for the part of the creepy Meter Guy.

Oh man, I came in on this story late! Can you link to the first part of this? Weird weird weird…

I’m really glad that - last you heard - she’s all right.

Because this means you can kill her if/when she gets back. :stuck_out_tongue:

And hey, the boss has to fire her now!

Gary Coleman?

Curiouser and couriouser. Although I’m not yet ready to toss out my Boss theory…

grade papers? How 'bout “must write papers…”

But if you need a manhunt, I’m in! Screw the paper!

Dar, Dar! Over dar!

Whoa. Well, at least you know she’s all right now. The boss can fire her without guilt.
