Alice honey, what is going on!!! First your bunny, now your bird. Were their cages below vents? When was the last time you checked your heating system? Now I’m worried about you…
They’re no where near any vents. The heat is OFF. The windows are open. There’s no CO floating around that I can tell. I haven’t seen any weird bugs buzzing around. (Well, I haven’t seen ANY bugs, actually - which is normal.)
I’m waiting for the vet to phone me back with Benny’s blood test results to see if there were any abnormalities but she’s in surgery all morning.
Y’know, I’ve had two parakeets in my life and they BOTH dropped dead with no obvious reason. One was overnight!! They do that sometimes. Cockatiels usually last longer (ours is six, and we’ve had her for 2 years).
Teflon will kill birds, but I don’t know if it affects bunnies. I’m sorry for your losses, Alice, it’s always hard to lose a pet.
Even if you haven’t used any Teflon pans, maybe a toaster, or toaster oven? I read a tragic story about a woman who got new toaster oven as a gift, and not knowing it had teflon she made some muffins and all four of her birds dropped dead.
Nope. No teflon. No bug spray of any kind. No plants close to the cage. He was 2.5 years old. My type of parakeet can live up to 15 years. Ditto with the bunny. 4 years old - should have a 10 year life span.
I’m down to one rabbit.
Oh - did I forget to mention that Fuzz, the One Eyed Wonder Hamster died about 5 weeks ago as well? I’m beginning to think that I’m Typhoid Alice, bringing something home from work that’s killing my pets.
I’m sorry, Alice. I hate to even suggest it, but is there any possibility of a bug that was transferred from your bunny to your parakeet? I don’t know how possible that is, but it seems so strange for them both to die.
Ummm…is this thread still open? Is the evil one gone?
Sorry about your loss, Alice in Wonderland. You may want to invest in a carbon monoxide detector. Hopefully, your vet will be able to determine what happened.
I’m so sorry to hear you and your pets have been having such a hard time Alice. I lost my canary Basil a couple of years ago and I still get choked up whenever I hear another Spanish Timbrado trill. Basil was supposed to be around a lot longer than he was, but his breeder clued me in to some things that shorten their lives. She told me ahead of time, so I knew I wasn’t going to get the full fifteen from him- heh, I bought a used bird. You however, have gotten hit in the heart by the meanie stick. I hope you find out soon what’s going on. Could his breeder know what’s going on? Maybe add a little dimension to what your vet is working with. Best of luck.
Alice, consider getting a tortise or some other long lived and relatively indestructible critter. You have my sympathies for the losses you’ve endured lately.
As to you, you maggot riddled scum ball. Kindly cram such insensitive rectal behavior with hot sandandwalnuts.
Zenster - I had a lovely turtle for years - Rico Suave - he was small, stunted and sort of funny looking, but a good turtle none-the-less. He lived for about 12 years - pretty average for a stunted red-eared slider. (He was stunted before I got him).
I’ve spoke to ATCO gas. I don’t even have a SOURCE of carbon monoxide in my place, let alone a leak. They were quite happy to come and check, except there’s nothing for them to check with natural gas. I’m all electric - I don’t even have a BBQ.
I have a call into the city water department to find out if they’ve had any complaints - so far nothing.
I am phoning the vet back at 2:00 (that’s when her lunch finishes) and perhaps she can shed some more light on my problem.
However, it seems to be shaping up that I’m just having the worst pet luck ever. I’ve gone from a house-full down to just one bunny who’s on a diet.
BTW - thanks for the “U”-like bags Cranky - they work well - did the case of Kinder Surprises arrive ok? (I hope so - I shipped them about 2 months ago! :D)
