Coldfire, I saw your warning only on review after posting. The comments I saw moved me to post without further reading of the thread. I have moved my opinions to another more appropriate forum, per my second post. I have no intention of subverting this board’s regulations. Forgive me if I was so offended, but I was.
Please delete the previous post. I should have handled that via email.
No, that’s OK. Your apology is appreciated.
Well, since everyones in an apology mood, I might as well get this over with - ** alice_in_wonderland ** I am sorry about the loss of your pets, and the earlier post I made in regards to this situation.
Uh huh. Fine.
As an update for everyone else:
I checked this morning and Benny is still alive! Horray!!
I had dreams all night about black toxic mold and all the places it could be hiding. I still haven’t found any. Horray!!
Perhaps I’ll get the silly cow that works at my asset management company to phone me back today. Maybe.
Sadly, Sammy is still dead, and Bart is still dead.
but Benny is alive!! Horray!
I’m sorry about your critters, alice.
Gosh, that’s awful! I’m sorry about your pets.
I forgot to mention that I’m supposed to be checking Benny’s ears for pinkness (pinkness being good.)
This AM his ears are nice and pink, although he objected strenuously when I started poking around at them.
::Moooooooom - quit playin’ with my ears!::
I hate to admit I was thinking along these lines too. We don’t know your roomie like you do, though. Maybe you could just eliminate this possibility for us and we can move onto sounder ground?
IANAV but I can’t think of any likely infectious agent that would be fatal to both a bunny and a bird. Did the vet say what the implications were of a rabbit having elevated creatine levels?
If you can eliminate the possibility of deliberate foul play I am leaning towards sad coincidence.
Laughing Lagomorph, who owns two pet Mini Rexes.
((alice)) I’m so sorry. I hope you get to the bottom of this soon.
Maybe your bunny nibbled something he shouldn’t have? Did the vet autopsy him? Maybe Bart died of one thing, but Sammy caught cold? Does your roomate have any spray deodarants, hairsprays, or perfumes? I hope it’s nothing you’re bringing home with you, that would be horrible.
Maybe it is pesticides, it would explain some things. I know in my apartment complex, the “bug man” came in to spray whether you were there or not, and if kitty was not locked up, oh well. Pets weren’t even supposed to go anywhere near the places that were sprayed for quite a while, and they usually came around to spray right after the previous spray was fading.
Well, the silly bint from my owners association hasn’t phoned me back - no surprise - she never does. I’m phoning her again tomorrow. Cow.
I’m pretty sure my roommate wouldn’t have done anything to anyone. She’s not really like that. Self centered. Obnoxious. A pain in the ass. But not homicidal. (Or peticidal.)
I couldn’t bear the thought of someone hacking Bart open, so he has gone to the Great Bunny-Hutch in the Sky intact. Sammy could have aspirated a seed. He wasn’t sick.
Benny could have eaten something that’s making him bleed internally. Or he could have drank a lot of water which skewed the results. Or who the hell knows.
I dunno. He seems OK now. As cranky as ever, which is a good sign.
Alice I’m so sorry! I go absolutely batshit when a pet dies, but I’ve never had to face two so close together. That’s just awful.
After some time has passed and you’re sure the environmental stuff is okay, you might consider a conure or a Quaker Parrot. They are noisy, but very cool and they live a lot longer than parakeets.
koee
I had parakeets before. One laid eggs but they never hatched. I have a St. Bernard now and two turtles I saved from downtown Manhattan. Even though I can’t touch them, Woody and Mordechai are pretty cute…sure beats my ex girlfriend’s cats!
-M
Woody Allen and Mordechai Richler perhaps?
Your pets are dropping like flies, namely a parakeet? You don’t live in a coal mine by chance? If so you better get out of dodge. (D&R) You can stop hitting me now.
Well dmm. There was my parakeet on Monday. My bunny the Wednesday before, and my hamster about 2 weeks before that.
That’s 3 pets. 1 bird. 1 bunny. 1 hamster. Down from 4 pets to 1.
As far as I know only the parakeet would have trouble in the coal mine. Which… let me just check here… I do not live in.
Oh no
I’m so sorry Alice. Ugh. Sucks!!
Please hang in there…how is your other bun doing?
((((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))))))) and prayer to you.
Benny seems to be doing ok:
He’s shwanking back his diet food at an alarming rate.
He’s as cantankerous as ever.
His ears and nose are nice and pink.
However, I have to admit that ever time I walk in the living room I think I’m gonna find him dead.
Please don’t think that, alice! It has to be just a fluke. A horrible, nasty fluke.
Ew! Your place is infested with flukes?!
Yuck!
