Ferrari 308 GTB (what was that TV detective show that had one???)
Jaguar XKE
1969/1970 Mustang Mach I
And the Honerable Mention for Outrageous, In-Your-Face, No Attempt To Disguise It’s A Race Car award goes to…
The 1970 Plymouth Superbird…with the 426 hemi, of course! One Sunday in June of '88 I saw thirteen of these machines (some may have been '69 Charger Daytona’s) headed south on I-65 between Hunstville and Nashville.
Jeez, I woulda picked the SuperBird for UGLIEST car ever. It was absolutely hideously lame compared to other Hemi models, particularly the Hemi Cuda. A friend of mine used to own a perfectly restored, all-numbers-match '67 Coronet and it absolutely looked like a plain everyday car that your momma would drive, except it had little badges reading “426 Hemi” on the sides, and it was the fastest car in our town.
Bad choice on the 68 Mach 1s. My old '65 GT Convertible could outperform any Mach 1 ever built, even the ones with a 351 Cleveland and shaker hood. I’d pick the 65 Shelby GT 350.
But for sheer beauty, I’d probably pick the Lamborghini Countache (sp?). I read an amusing magazine article where a guy described renting a Countache to drive up the mountains to a ski resort in Switzerland. He said he skidded off the road in a rather minor crash and the car positively disintegrated around him. These cars are obviously not built for durability, just looks and performance.
<Snigger> Triumph TR-7 <Snort> most beautiful car of all time… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh sorry you were actually being serious?
As well as being the ugliest of all the TR’s (a fact made more damnable because the others were so good looking) this car is plain brutesque. Its a magnificent tribute to the last dying gasps of British Leyland and once grand firm Triumph and best forgotten about.
If you do want a Triumph have a Herald, Vitesse, GT6, Spitfire, TR 2-6, 2000 or a Stag. All (except the TR6) had gorgeous Mitchelotti/Mitchelotti inspired styling, very distinctive and so sexy looking. If these cars were still alive today you’d be driving them instead of you BMW’s.
But getting back to the OP, the TVR Tuscan is of course the most beautiful car in the world.
But only in the color that’s invariably described as “titty pink”, right? I keep expecting to see one with a nipple painted on it.
The 240Z was a good looking car, but it’s styling is a ripoff of the XKE.
The GT40 is great looking, but I wasn’t aware you could actually buy one for the street. Though I didn’t speciy so, I was actually referring to production street cars. If we’re going to include pure race machines, those 6-wheeled Tyrell F1 cars were pretty sexy.
ChasE, the 351C was far from the strongest engine available in the 69/70 Mustangs. Also available was the 390GT/325HP engine, and the 428CJ/335HP. I’m not sure Ford’s flagship monster, the 427 dual-quad, could be had in Mustings those years, or ever, but the 429 could. If you’re telling me your '65 could outrun a Boss 429, either you or your car must be on nitrous oxide!
