Mrs Blather now has a web site selling things I know are of interest to some dopers. Is there any kosher way to announce that?
Not really, as that’s direct advertising, which we do not allow, unless she would like to purchase Google ads or get ad space directly from the Reader.
We tend to take a pretty hard line on this sort of thing with few exceptions, those being in the creative arts. Cecil’s a big supporter of the arts and creative people and feels they are in need of a little extra help on those occasions of book publication and the like. But even that is somewhat limited. We don’t want the community spammed with people’s moneymaking schemes, if you want to see where that has absolutely destroyed a community go look at USENET. There’s a zillion boards on USENET that are absolutely unreadable because they’re full of crap advertising.
