Ok, what's with Civ4? (bugs)

I got Civ4 with aboth expansions recently, and Ive got to say it’s a bug-filled mess.

Not the game itself, which runs fine. It’s the stupid menu. It frequently fails to load mods, kicks out rndom errors, wn’t update although it claims to need one, wo’t tell me what version it is. The latest patch to 1.61 doesn’t work anyway, as it keeps insisting I don’t have Civ4 installed at all.

What the hey? And why does it require a total restart to load up a fricking mod? Lame!

So far, I STILL can’t play Fall from Heaven, which is half the reason I got the damn game. It spits out a meaningless error and hands somewhere while loading up the fonts.

If you have both expansions, you should not be loading the 1.61 patch at all. You should be updated to the 3.17 version of “Beyond The Sword.”

Admittedly, the automatic patching IS buggy, and I could not upgrade to 3.17 automatically; I had to download the patch. But other than that I can’t find any bugs.

That said, I will say this; the Firaxis web site is absolute shit. I could find that 3.17 patch almost anywhere… except the official Civ 4 and BTS websites.

I couldn’t even figure out that I defitely needed the 3.17 patch. Oh well, I’m getting it now.

Civ IV is about the most stable game I own. I can’t remember it ever giving me an error or shutting down. I’ve got “beyond the sword” version 3.0.0.1. I guess I’ll go try to find the update…

The problem seems to be that the game itself is installed (automatically, I might add) into the wrong directory. it is - C:/Windows/somethingsomething/My Documents/My Games.

But it should be C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/

And some proggies are expecting that and can’t work the difference. Given that I dislike the My Games folder (nice concept, but it’s irritating now) and the things aren’t working right, I will probably have to uninstall everything and reinstall it.
