Civ 4 patch 1.61 error message

Hey guys. I had stopped playing Civ4 months ago because of lovely intel graphics and the black terrain/cheshire grin issues. However, I heard that patch 1.61 might fix this (with a bit of luck). I went to download the patch, but when I try to open it up to setup, it says this:

“The setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier’s Civilization 4 is installed. This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed.”

The only issue I can see is that there IS a civ 4 folder where there should be one, but it has nothing in it (the actual game is under My Doumects, ala Windows XP mydocuments-for-every-user system. Placing the patch in the correct folder doesn’t work. Placing it in the correct folder’s patch folder doesn’t work. Placing it (for kicks) in the folder where it SHOULD be, doesn’t work. Downloading 1.52 (I have no patches at all, I think I are running 1.00) doesn’t work.

Should I delete the folder in program files? Should I just try to download the whole thing again in the correct place? ;p Also, this is a legit copy (I thought it was cute that 1.61 added a 10 turn only mod for the no-cd crack, and watching everyone whine).

Oddly, I can’t find this error easily through google by using various turns of the phrase. Maybe 6 hits at most, with 4 in a different language.

I think if I can’t find any help I might try reinstalling, as with the black terrain/etc I haven’t gotten much enjoyment out of the game right now. Yay intel

I think the simple solution is to install Civ4 is the folder it’s supposed to be in.

Nevermind. The problem was astounding simple with a good night’s rest and unblearied eyes.

However, we’ll see if it fixes the black terrain problem…

/S

v1.61 officially fixed the black terrain and cheshire grin problem.

YAY!!
