I’m pretty sure you’ve all heard of it. It’s that horrible “Who let the dogs out?” song. I saw an ad for it on WB late one night a couple three weeks ago. Since then, Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres, and I’m sure many others have made references to it.
But I’ve actually never heard the song.
Is it for real? I mean, do radio stations actually play it, or is it just some lousy album that somehow invaded the public consciousness in order to be ridiculed?
Yup, it’s for real. I don’t know if they play it on the radio or not–I don’t listen to that kind of station most of the time–but if they played madonna’s version of American Pie on the radio, they probably play this song too.
The only place I’ve been exposed to it is Nickelodeon; it was last week’s “video pick of the week”. The video is worse than the song.
I just heard the full thing a few days ago. There are 2 versions that I’ve heard…one by the Baha Men (the one popular now), and one by Chuck Smooth. The Baha Men one is vastly superior in my opinion. The song has been popular in Latin America for some time. It’s a soca tune (named so due to it’s contributions from soul and calypso), and I actully think it’s pretty cool. Once you get over the initial “Who let the dogs out” it gets pretty cool, and then the chorus just seems to fit. When played as a sports song, I actually think it’s quite annoying, but I like it just as a song. I usually don’t listen to that type of music either, but for some reason, I like this. The Chuck smooth version has completely different words, and the verse is rapped instead of sung…not nearly as good IMO.
