I just love playing backgammon, spent much of my spare time senior year of college playing it. Now, many years later, I can only play virtual backgammon on the internet. Still fun and challenging, but I miss the camaraderie of sitting across the table from my opponent and having other blokes sitting around schmoozing, the air redolent of beer and stale cigarette smoke.
I play on www.pogo.com. But I agree I miss the cut and thrust of live play.
You can tell a lot from your opponents facial expressions. And also you can smile smugly when you know victory is within grasp - that really pisses off the opponent and may force them to make a mistake.
I love backgammon. I have it installed on my computer and play every night. Playing live games with an actual person is much better, but until I find a friend that plays, this will have to make do.
A few years ago I had 4 Danish roommates and they all played – heck, with the devotion they played, you’d think it was a national pasttime ;). There was always someone to play backgammon with, it was bliss
I picked it up a couple summers ago when I downloaded a Hoyle board games demo. I’ve only played a couple times IRL, but it’s fun, and I didn’t lose all the time.
Since then I’ve reformatted and made the conscious decision to not reinstall that game. I waste too much time on the boards and playing Spider Solitaire, that I can’t handle any other games.
