Change that last word to criminal and you’d be almost right.
Stop giving the OP so much grief. It’s not her fault she’s a compulsive cop defender.
How in the world are you going to get any evidence against her that will stick?
Cop on stand: She blew a .13 which is over the legal limit in Florida, sir.
Defense attorney: Yes, officer, now this .13, did she blow this before or after you falsified the story about the accident? Are you sure that she blew a .13 or was this another thing that you and your cohorts falsified?
Nobody is gonna defend this bitch, bubbie. I got no problems with drunks but they can’’'t drive. That is sooo soo good for me. I made the right choice.
Question.
We all know that in any large group of people, there are going to be some “bad apples in the barrel”. Is the purpose of this post a simple broad-brush attack on police in general by attempting to show the actions of these cops as being indicative of the actions of all cops? If not, what was your point in making the post?
The portable breathalyzer isn’t a substitute for proper testing, though- for a conviction, she’d have to have blown at the station or taken a blood/urine test, neither of which would have been administered by these officers.
Of course, the original arrest would be tainted, so there you go.
The highlighted portion is where you got it wrong.
Most think there is a small part of the police department that are corrupt or incompetent. They don’t live in Detroit.
The police should clean out up the police department . But instead they protect each other. The attitude that it is us against them, is a bad characteristic of most departments. They should work for the benefit of the citizens. They should act like it. They are supposed to believe the law is the most important cog in their machinery. Often they work around it. The people they encounter are just problems .
Most of the cops I know started off somewhat altruistic. But the day to day encounters turns them into something else.
No.
Do you think we should?
You’re welcome to demonstrate that. That’s what this thread is for.
No.
But that’s what **Cisco **seems to think is the alternative to broad-brushing all cops as bad because of the actions of the bad apples.
Not for nothing here, but didn’t the system in place to deal with bad cops, well, deal with the bad cops? These were wrong guys from the word go and so arrogant (or stupid) as to believe that plotting some form of fuckery in front of their own dashcam would go unnoticed and unpunished.
I think they ought to bounce the lot of them.
As far as the SDMB, well, there are plenty of people who out-and-out hate the police for one reason or another. Of course, that’s their right, and as much as I wish those people could be taken out of the pool of people who can call for help FROM the police, that’ll never happen because even if you hate 'em, if you call, they’ll show up. That goes for you too, Ivan. Though you may not want a cop at your house, they’ll come if you need them.
I think really bad cops are as rare as really good ones and that the majority of 'em are just average, much like the population.
I’m not sure I know of anyone here who has defended truly bad cops beyond all reason (note: I said all reason, not just yourreason). Like doctors or lawyers, cops have a job that some people think they understand and think they could do better or more professionally or whatever. They can’t. They couldn’t and thier misapplied expectations and limited understanding of the job, be it doctor, cop, or plumber, leads to broad-brush knee-jerk fests that are fodder for the haters but have no real intrinsic value.
These coppers were wrong and they’re being dealt with.
Next…
Great! Do you blindly trust them? The good ones, I mean.
Blindly trust them? No. But, selectively trust them? Sure.
For example, if they are dispatched to my home when I call 911 because it is being burglarized, then yeah, I trust that they will respond and take the proper course of action.
On the other hand, let’s take the incident in the OP. If I were in that lady’s shoes, except that I was still coherent enough to put two and two together, then no, I wouldn’t trust them. I wouldn’t put it past them that they may try to pull a fast one and somehow blame the accident on me.
It boils down to this - do they have something to lose? If they do, they’ll do whatever they can to pass the blame and/or responsibility onto others. The level to which they’ll do this will obviously depend on the individual cop. And, when you really think about it, it’s not just cops. This is just human nature.
When we fuck up, we immediately look to others for blame or fault. Now, cops are held to a higher standard. Yes, I get it. But human nature is human nature, and it’ll creep up on us whether we want it to or not. What separates a good cop over a bad cop is his ability to resist it.
Generally speaking though, I support cops, and usually give them the benefit of the doubt when negative news stories are broadcast about them. I think the media has an obsession with portraying the police in a negative light whenever they can, and as a society, we eat it up and buy right into it.
Who assumes every cop is a bad one?
Stan Shmenge? catsix?

And these officers back at the station, they are good guys, right? Not like the three from the same department that tried to frame her?
And these officers back at the station, they are good guys, right? Not like the three from the same department that tried to frame her?
Nah. The good guys were all out looking for her lost cat.
So was there actually a cat in the car? Or did she make that up?
The officers made that up, if that’s what you mean.
Most think there is a small part of the police department that are corrupt or incompetent. They don’t live in Detroit.
The police should clean out up the police department .
We should just clean out Detroit and restart that whole mess form the beginning.
I can’t believe that folks are so focused on the cops rather than that travesty of journalism that was conveying the story. My god the constant switching of tenses was bad enough to give me whiplash. Toss the writer into prison with the police. Sheesh.
The officers made that up, if that’s what you mean.
No, if you watch the video, she brought up the cat.
