I pit the cops who openly applauded police abuse today

Today, President Trump called on police officers to abuse suspects.

And a crowd of police officers cheered. Video here.

From Trump, I expect this. But I expect more of the police. Every single one who applauded should be fired.

Every cop that smiled or clapped or cheered needs to be fired.

Seems we found the rotten apple barrel.

For those that can’t watch videos at work.

The relevant bit from the video:

“When you see these towns, and you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon – you just see 'em thrown in, rough. I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice.’ Like when you guys put somebody in the car, and you’re protecting their head–the way you put the hand over–like, don’t hit their head, and they’ve just killed somebody, don’t hit their head? I said, ‘You can take the hand away, okay’.”

Oh my god. I didn’t think that asshole could surprise me anymore. But Jesus, that’s offensive.

Did he use the old line about liberal judges coddling criminals? Kinda miss that one, been a while.

I endorse this pitting. Some small but significant portion of police officers are bullies who enjoy hurting people. Those cops are greatly hurting America and Americans.

So, among the American institutions to which Trump (and some large fraction of police officers, apparently) is either indifferent or actively hostile are: presumed innocence; protection of rights while presumed innocent; rule of law.

I am pretty sure he just threw this out there as red meat for his audience. In a sense, that makes it worse because it make it clear he has no understanding, or interest in increasing his understanding, of the principles which are supposed to govern our country.

Every day that goes by makes me wonder how, and how well, we will ever be able to recover from the influence being exercised by 45 and his minions on our national character.

Small but significant? Did you see anyone in that group of police frowning at his words?

Trump seems to have forgotten the “presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law” principle. And a few cops presumably need a reminder, too.

Edit - ninja’d by **Roderick Femm **.

Yeh, I was watching that live and was all kinds of WTF. At least when Trump’s arrested, maybe the cop will take his words to heart and shoot him in the prostate.

I would love to see how he’s treated if he’s booked anytime in the next three years. I hope they treat him professionally. But hey…

When did I first hear about Central American gang bangers terrorizing the native bunch? Five years ago, ten? When did Il Douche find out? Though I do like how he promised not to send any of the Dreamer kids to Hell Salvador to be preyed upon by savages. He did promise that, right?

My first thought was that Trump probably said something ill-advised but it wasn’t as blatant as the OP was suggesting. Even a President as bad as Trump wouldn’t openly call for police violence.

I stand corrected.

I guess we’ve entered the post-codeword era of politics.

“Lock her up” was kind of a clue.

Would you please quote the exact wording where he said, “Go commit brutality”? Because I listened to that clip a couple of times and I didn’t hear him say it.

Of course, I’m not liberal, which probably explains it.

Does he even know about that guy who died from being in a paddy wagon? Bad enough if he’s an ignorant sack o’ shit about it. Worse if he was making an approving reference.

And what about the cops, what message were they getting?

Do you ever read an entire thread? Even if most of it is blanked out?

Fucking coward, hiding behind your ignore list.
How is that part of your warrior life that you prattle on about in your blog posts?

Did you, for that matter did ANY of you, expect any different???

By the way, assholes like Trump and crooked brutal cops make the gangs stronger. When people feel the system - the law - won’t protect them, they turn to the gangs.

Another illustration of the utter evil of this man. He has the ability to appeal to the worst elements of any crowd while the better people in the crowd as stunned into doing nothing in response. A very useful skill for a man who aspires to despotism.
