This. And sometimes people’s opinions are so beyond the pale that you feel morally incriminated just by associating with them.
I mean seriously, if someone doesn’t agree with me politically or I don’t share their spiritual perspective, fine. But when you’re frothing at the mouth about shit that calls into question your ability to make judgments about reality (i.e. The Bible says that Obama is the Anti-Christ, Armageddon is imminent, we are on the brink of a civil war, homosexuals are like pedophiles, etc.), that’s going to constantly piss me off and irritate me. If you, corkboard, aren’t bothered by that shit, that’s great. I am. It disturbs the hell out of me.
Honest answer: it makes it really fucking hard to cyber stalk and spy on people I want to gossip about if I defriend them and they have their profile set to private. Just because I don’t like you doesn’t mean I don’t want to silent judge you at 1:00 am while I cruise the internet and finish my wine in my underwear.
True. I have “defriended” very few people (see my reasons above :)) but the one I did cut was because he was posting things I find offensive on a 4 time/day basis. I had to draw the line when his posts included stock art of dildos being inserted into a spread eagle woman. I mean, he’s a prostitute so I expected some “salty” stuff, but not a blow-by-blow, so to speak, of his daily activities.
