Okay, I get it! There's a movie about Cat in the Hat coming out!

I don’t watch much TV, and really hadn’t realized there was a huge media blitz. I’ve seen a few trailers for it, though, and something kept bugging me. Finally I figured it out:

Mike Myers is just playing the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz! He moves like him, he sounds like him, his makeup even looks like the Cowardly Lion’s. (Of course, they’re both playing felines, so they have to look a little similar, I guess. But still.)

I guess I know where I’ll be going on the premiere day (boys ages 6 & 8).

This is not a good game,
Said our fish as he lit,
No, I do not like it,
Not one little bit!

Dr. Seuss rules!

[BarfySmiley] Actually,ThreeLeggedBob, the Cat In The Hat is appearing on postmarks too.[/BarfySmiley]

There’s a movie of The Cat In The Hat?
I had no idea.

You think there’d at least be some commercials for it or something. :smack:

Mr. Blue Sky, that might have soothed my sensibilities had I not seen a very scary movie trailer for it the last time I went to the movies.

The post office is also using it when they cancel stamps, at least around here.

Dr. Seuss rules. Life-action Dr. Seuss movies blow. I’m deathly afraid this movie will make a lot of money and more will be made.

That’s about it, really.

On a brighter note: Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Grinch looked pretty bad - I didn’t see it - but made boatloads of cash for someone. The Cat looks bad - I won’t see it - and will make boatloads of cash for someone. They’re kids films for kids who may not be as in tune with Dr. Seuss as we all were at that age. It’s more of an afterthought now - see the movie, read the book.

Do you like
Those Disney ads?

I do not like them,
Mr. Welch.
Those promos I
Would like to squelch.

Would you like them
As tie-ins?

I would not like them
As tie-ins.
I want to kick them
In the shins.
I do not like
those Disney plugs.
I’d rather eat
some slimey slugs.

Would you like them
with your food?
Would that put you
in a mood?

I do not like them
with my food.
And yes, that puts me
in a mood.
I do not like them
here or there.
I do not like them
anywhere.
I do not like Mike Myers’ ad.
They make me sick, they make me sad.

Not on a train! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! Please! Let me be!

There was an article in the Washington Post this morning about the media blitz, if you’re interested:
Buy This! Buy That! Says Cat in the Hat

Particularly scary (I added the italics):

This consumer doesn’t. Movie ads and tie-ins for toys…but lay off the Swiffer.

I salute you, Eve.. Nice job!

Good po-em, Eve, but the Cat works
for Universal and Dreamworks.
I’m sure Disney wouldn’t have thought twice-
Everyone knows that cats eat mice.

Am I the only one here who’d buy a copy of “The Wisdom of Eve”?

The other day I was in a Gamestop and I happened to catch a glance at a video game of Green Eggs and Ham* for gameboy advance. Green Eggs and Ham THE GAME? What the hell? I wouldn’t be surprised of they made a game out of the Cat in the Hat movie, which wouldn’t make any sense but sure would make a lot of money!

If it was done well, I could see a “Green Eggs and Ham” game being pretty fun, actually. But that’s the first book that I KNOW I read, so I have some extra warm fuzzies about it.

Nintendo’s site says a Cat in the Hat game has been announced.

I keep typing that “Cat in the Hate.” As far as this movie looks, though, that’s all too accurate…

I think the good Doctor’s name is in the film’s logo,
which appears on all merchandise from here to Togo,
from books to toys to games to sticks that go pogo.

Some excerpts: " . . . a vulgar, uninspired lump of poisoned eye candy . . . scarcely a moment of genuine laughter in the mercifully brief 78 minutes . . . a grueling, chaotic stew of forced whimsy . . . like a noisemaker wielded by a drunken birthday-party clown desperate to prevent his cranky audience from showing signs of boredom . . . this Cat should be tied up in a sack and drowned . . . “Make that cat go away! Tell that cat in the hat you do not want to play.”

—Oooooh, I can’t wait to see it! It seems the only thing missing is Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.

Whenever a movie is overhyped like this, it sucks. Anyone remember the madness around that Godzilla with Ferris Bueller? Exhibit A!

Psssst. It’s called the United States Postal Service and it is not a government agency – hence its branch offices are not government offices.
