Okay, I get it! There's a movie about Cat in the Hat coming out!

I can handle the commercials for the movie, fine. Even the obligatory fast food Kid’s Meal tie-in (Burger King this time, right?)

But when there’s a tie-in to Radio Shack…and Procter and Gamble cleaning products…and Target…it starts to get a bit scary.

I don’t remember the last time a movie had so many tie-ins with so many different companies. Do they think this is the next big epic or something?

There once was a story called The Cat in the Hat
And Hollywood said, "Let’s make a movie about that!

The Cat in the Hat is coming out? I wondered about his fashion sense.

Anyone else feel unintentionally misled by this thread title?

When I first saw a commercial for this movie, I said, “Well, here comes the Cat in the Hat marketing blitz.” And come it has.

Is the Cat in the Hat supposed to sound like an old jewish lady?

I’ll admit my jaw dropped on the cleaning products ad.

I think the whole marketing tie-ins dept. needs to take a 'luude.

The marketing sickens me, but from what I’ve seen in the ads, the movie itself sickens me more – the idea of it, since there’s no way in hell I’m EVER seeing it! If those are the good bits, I shudder to think of the rest of it…

The worst thing I’ve seen was at Kohl’s - a picture book based on the movie. The cover said something like “by Somerandom Schmuck, based on the Dreamworks movie.” The good Doctor’s name did not appear on the cover, though on an inside page they grudgingly acknowledged that the movie itself was based on another book.

Has anyone else gotten the impression that Dr. Seuss’s widow is not particularly interested in maintaining the sanctity of her husband’s creations?

Wasn’t the good Doctor against materialism and commercialism such as this? He must be rolling over in his grave while his widow is rolling in huge piles of money.

I only hope she’s raking in huge piles of money. I’ve got this mental image of a hollywood producer saying “This is just a standard form, Mrs. Geisel, just sign here … what is it? Oh, nothing, nothing really. We just need this to uh … clear up some paperwork. That’s it really. Don’t worry about it …”

I found a link for the book:
Dr. Seuss Abomination

The Cat In The Hat Movie is going to SUCK, like the Grinch Movie SUCKED. I really wish this Movie Company would quit ruining these books by turning them into movies. But, unfortunately they are making a Curious George TV Show and Movie - and I think it’s Live-Action.

Folks, calm down. There is NO Cat in the Hat movie coming out.

It’s just a marketing test by the Hollywood bigwigs to see IF any one would WANT to see a Cat in the Hat movie. They wouldn’t be so stupid as to actually MAKE this movie.

Carry on.

Dear God, JerH. That is so very very wrong…

I wonder if the movie will hold on to the subtextual themes of child molestation?

ok ok so we have the book of the movie of the book?

Frightening.

Nah. If they were going to keep that, they would’ve casted Michael Jackson.

(Does anyone still go to the Post Office?) The US Post Office is promoting its products with Cat in the Hat movie tie-ins. Posters everywhere. Hollywood can now apparently advertise at government offices.

Looks like it’s going to blow big time, based on preliminary reviews:
