Yeah. That’s the stuff that’s supposed to be funny, right?
Only to smart people.
Zoe, do me a favor? Don’t assume the position of speaking for all of those who suffer from mental illness, mmmkay?
Explains the problem you’re having with it.
Guin, I responded to that comment earlier in the thread. I have never claimed to speak for all mentally ill people. I qualify my statements with “some” and “many” when talking about the feelings and thoughts of the mentally ill.
Keep in mind that the disorder that you have is not the same as the illness that I have.
Even in this thread it is easy to see how people feel free to ridicule “crazy” people. That label keeps it sounding like it’s their fault and a little bit of fun too.
If I understood Tom correctly, he said that he had not heard that phrased used to insult the mentally ill.
I’m saying that that particular phrase stigmatizes the mentally ill. (Actually, we are stigmatized anyway, but taking medication for mental illness is a big issue in psychiatry.) There is a lot of misinformation about medications and people are afraid to take them because of that misinformation. People who are bi-polar have a lot of trouble staying on their medications because they miss the highs. Family members are divided over whether or not a person should be on medication to begin with. Some people see it as a personal weakness to rely on medication. And there can be discouraging side effects from some of the meds.
So it is already a hot button topic. And whether Tom knows it or not, it is used to put down people taking meds. It also makes me wince when it is “humorously” suggested to someone who is acting like a fool.
These are some of the problems that get talked about in groups in the hospital. There are rules against “hate speech” at SDMB and believe me, plenty of “crazy people” feel hated. But don’t let that stop you from using comparisons to us as a put-down.
After all, it is the Pit.
Not usually though. It may always be incidentally insulting to you but it is rarely used that way. You should probably lighten up. Or up the dosage. Ha ha.
You so crazy.
I’m sure Tom will find some reason why that comment doesn’t fit the criteria either.
Oh well.
You really, really, have a bug up your ass. See a proctologist. mmmmkay?
You mean a proctoentomologist.
I love it when you talk mean and dirty.
But this is the right forum for us bugged people and this is a pitting of Tom.
You are just so darned quietly stoic under this adversity. Truly an example to heavily-medicated thin-skinned people everywhere.
Comment on her clothing and body? Check. Comparing her to an evil queen and/or witch? Check. Calling her supporters whores? Check.
Now where’s that thread about jaw-dropping posts…
That comment is an insult to those affected by parasites, and I don’t know why you won’t be sensitive to that.
Are you in the right thread? If so, can you elaborate?
Have you read the OP?
OH! THE OP!
i thought we were done with that a long time ago
Yeah, that’s what threw me. Sorry.
Yes, since her endorsement of Obama, I have now grown fond of Hillary’s ass, and her flying monkees.
Oh, that’s right. The name of this thread is " Okay, mods, circle around Tom."
Hmmm.
