Okay, what's frozen in my car?

This morning it was a delightful 2 deg. F outside. Not a problem, I thought, I’ve just have my car serviced, including coolant flushed and replaced, battery’s still going strong.

I turn the key. The car attempts to start, but at the point at which the engine would normally turn over and start running, all I hear is a high-pitched whine. I try a couple more times, same results - engine is trying to catch, but something clearly isn’t moving… and now I’m reluctant to try again, lest I damage something. Guess my shopping will have to wait until it warms up (ha ha).

Just for my own info, what’s likely to be frozen in there? This is a 4-cyl. Toyota Corolla, btw.

Thaty high-pitched whine is most likely the starter motor freerunning. It sounds like the solenoid is not fully engaging, and is becoming disengaged prematurely.

Like QED said. You might be able to get a bit of heat to it and make it work.
