Okay, you want flame, here be flame.

I posted a thread about the nut jobs we are allowing to take over in Great Debates. We are allowing it by responding to their rhetoric posts. We being the collective we. Fine, it probably should have been posted here. But, instead, I was called ignorant and it was closed instead of moved. So fuck you.

So much for this board being different. Sure, we’re all human. Sure, the election here in US is passionate. But, I’m not spending my money on a place that is so slow I can’t post half the time, and with people who would rather insult my attempts to turn things back toward rational debate rather than ignore the haters.

So, unless something changes, when my 30 days are up soon, I’m keeping my cash.

You knew it was coming: link?

You probably don’t realize this, but it takes more server resources to move athread than to lock it and have a new one opened. So a reasonable response to the original thread (this one, by the way) would be to close it, particularly since you yourself acknowledged that the thread was in the wrong place to begin with.

Also, I don’t think LilShieste’s comment about ignorance was directed at you It was more of an explanation: nut jobs, in general (the subject of your post) are spreading ignorance. The raison d’etre of this board is to fight ignorance. Ergo, the responses to the nut jobs. Not directed at you at all.

No, dude, there’s no ‘probably’ about it. Why should you be an exception?

Abusing the board rules to abuse people who abuse the board’s intellectual capacity and then abusing the upholder of those rules indicates to me a lack of intellectual capacity in the abuser.

No! Don’t go! Your $15 is important to us!

This makes no sense, funtionally or technically, so please explain.

Okay, a few minutes removed from my anger I can see that. So, I withdraw my statement about that part.

So? Move the thread. I’m (obviously) new here since I haven’t subscribed yet. Do you insult everyone who isn’t perfect about the ‘rules’?

Date much?

If it’s not important, then why ask for it? And you question my intellectual capacity?

Off topic and apropos of exactly squat, today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so good job on “here be flame.”

Arrr!

So, uh, this place obviously ain’t for you. I mean, most of the rest of us like it pretty well here (although I avoid Great Debates as nothing good ever happens there) and since you’re probably not going to change the culture of a community that existed before you, I think going somewhere else and keeping your money is probably the best solution.

What I don’t understand is why people who decide they don’t like the place feel the need to share their thoughts with the rest of us before they go. I mean, your rant or screed about this place is not really likely to help us suddenly realize that we’ve been wrong all along. So just leave. I suspect no one particularly knows who you are anyway.

Ah, speaking of flames; if you’re going down in them, why not be as destructive as possible.

What you seem to be asserting is that one cannont be both intelligent and socially adept. Well, which one are you?

Since my complaint is about Great Debates (and server slowness) everything else you are going to say is irrelevant. You already ran away. Good for you. I’d rather fight for something worth fighting for.

Easy solution: read the rules before you post. (In my last post, I was more referring to ignorance portrayed by someone going against board rules just to make a point. So… your directed anger was probably in the right place.)

Well, that mistake of yours probably cost us a couple of hamsters at least. So I don’t want to hear any complaining.

Maybe I’m not remembering correctly, but in some of the political debates I’ve seen lately, there has been bull-headed stubborness on both sides of the board’s political spectrum. So what you’re basically saying is that you don’t want to officially subcribe to the SDMB because people hold views differing from your own…? And you’re complaining about the poor quality of the debates here?

There is more to the SDMB than GD.

As for the abundance of political threads lately, yes there have been tons. This is a very heated election, so I would expect nothing less from the SDMB. I really don’t think that you should hold that against us, though, matey*.

Of course not. Lots of recent subscribers manage to arrive here to a warm welcome despite occasional errors. This is usually achieved by not pissing people off with insults.

A bit of observation will reveal there are 48,000+ members, and 5 million posts. It’s an incredibly busy board. Information you might not be aware of: the mods are overworked and unpaid. Demanding that they move threads around adds to their already massive workload. You read the board rules.

Happily married, thanks.

I was being sarcastic.

Welcome, anyway. Shiver me timbers!

No. What I’m asserting is that the statement was not intelligent. The construction of the statement in question was so byzantine it indicates the writer needs to go outside and talk to real poeple and see how humans converse.

Hambil, since you are new I suggest you search around a bit and discover the meaning of the term “you’ve been wooshed”

And yes, I would question the intellectual capacity(or the lack thereof) of someone who knowingly starts a thread in the wrong forum, think the rules don’t apply to them. It’s not how to win friends and influence people.

I’ve read the posts of many guests since we went subscription here. Even if inexperienced, almost all have tried to abide by the rules. Many have been delightful, and wittier than I will ever be. It was obvious they’d lurked for a while before registering as a Guest.

So step back and cool down. You may change your mind about this place.

Did I mention a side? Did I say conservatives or liberals? No, I did not. Please re-read my post.

I’m just frustrated. I came here only a few weeks ago, and it was better than this (in Great Debates). I suppose it will get better again. My only point was, we CAN choose to ignore these rhetoric threads, and rhetoric statements. We don’t have to let the haters set the tone of the debate.

The statement was a little attempt at humour, old chap.

Despite what you believe to be evidence to the contrary, I am often to be found in social situations, chatting away nineteen to the dozen. I am on the board currently because I find it a consistently fascinating diversion, and because my wife is currently asleep on the sofa, dozing off the party we were at last night.

Anyway, let’s relax our defenses. I hereby offer to you an olive branch, which I have had to tie around this here hook that I have instead of a hand (damned crocodiles).

Pieces of eight!

Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out.

Idiot.

Clearly, since I stated a mod could move the thread, I did think the rules applied to me. I however, felt that the topic was worth bringing up, and belonged where it was. I could have started a thread with the title “How we debate - fighting ignorance and rhetoric.” about basically the same thing. It would have belonged, and stayed, in great debates. So clearly the topic IS worthy of debate.

And insulting someone’s intellectually capacity is? I’ll take my advice from someone who knows what they are talking about, thanks anyway.

I may. We shall see, matey.

Thank you. I over-reacted.

I forgot to have my doctor check the reflexes in my left knee; still need to get that looked at. I apologize for jumping to my conclusion.

I know your frustration. I am certain that the political divider that seems to be getting thicker and thicker, as we near the election, will eventually start dwindling away once November rolls around. Until that time, though, we all just have to wade through the rhetoric.

In fact… I should probably steer clear of [political] GD for a while, what with my knee-jerk problem that you witnessed.
